About the home

This little cosy, modern cottage is located on a spacious site near Barna village and Barna Golf Club in a picturesque setting, just 5 miles from Galway city. Enjoy views of Galway Bay across to the world-famous Burren mountains of County Clare. A glimpse of the sea, cows in fields – perfect relaxation!

Directly across from the cottage is the Pitch-n-Putt and Lough Inch. Only a short drive (or walk) to beautiful beaches, shops, restaurants, Hotels & Leisure Centres and on the edge of the unspoilt beauty of the boglands of Conemara. 10- 15 minute commute to Galway City and easily accessible to Ballybrit Racecourse for the famous Galway Races. Nearby Salthill offers watersports, tennis, horse-riding, nightclubs.

The cottage is furnished to high specification. It is laid out in 'studio' style with double bed and a camp bed that is tucked away.
Furnished to high standard. There are wardrobes, bedside lockers and lamps. The kitchen is very well equipped and has gas hob, electric fan oven, microwave, kettle, toaster, iron etc. Bathroom has instant electric shower. We also provide an array of books (incl children's), DVDs, jigsaws and playing cards. Welcome Folder and maps. Travel-cot and highchair available. Also equipment for elderly and disabled. Baby sitter available.

South-facing wooden deck with garden furniture. We provide a BBQ stand and utensils and can purchase disposable charcoal trays on your behalf, to start you off. Two bicycles and golf set available - deposit required. Peaceful setting: you will enjoy dining outdoors where the only spectators are the cows in the field next door! The area is a walkers' paradise, through boglands, and many little country laneways. Badminton set for front lawn. Private off-road parking. Tennis courts nearby. Football field across the road. Play golf and pitch-n-putt nearby.

RENTAL PERIOD: 17:00 hrs on arrival day (generally Saturday) until 10:00 hrs on departure day.

BOOKING: 50% deposit on booking, balance due 8 weeks before arrival. A standard contract document is in place.

SECURITY DEPOSIT of €100 (refundable) also applies, and is payable along with the balance, 8 weeks before the commencement of the let.

LINEN: All bed linen is provided and beds are made up.

TOWELS: are provided – 2 per person, hand towels for bathrooms, bath rugs and kitchen tea-towels. Guests are asked to bring their own beach towels.

GAS for hob is included; electricity is metered and charged at cost.

BBQ facilities and utensils provided. Let us know if you require disposable charcoal trays (instant light) so we may arrange it for you at cost of €8 per twin pack.

The County Galway / County Clare / County Galway region

The Barna Cottages are on the doorstep of the acclaimed 'Conemara' region. This area of west Galway extends out to the islands, and is known for its stone-walled fields, thatched cottages, boglands, unspoiled beaches and native Irish speakers. Take the sea-shore route through Spiddal, Inveran, and on out to Ros-a-Mhil to catch the ferry to the Aran Islands, or travel the 'lakes' route through Oughterard (famous for salmon fishing & castle), Maam Cross and past the Twelve Pins Mountains to the busy market town of Clifden and on to the Conemara National Park & Renvyle or even to Inishbofin Island.

There are many golf courses nearby (only a short walk from the cottage to the Barna Golf Course). For day-trips you could consider: the Burren National Park, The Cliffs of Moher, Aillwee Caves, Coole Park, Thoor Ballylee (home of W.B. Yeats, one of our great poets). Visitors to the area can enjoy fishing, wonderful scenic and historic walks and sea sports.

BARNA is a quiet, seaside village offering award-winning restaurants (Donnelly's, The Twelve Hotel, O'Grady's at the pier), cafés, hair & beauty salons, health food shop, gift shop, boutiques, bakery and a great supermarket. Visit Silver Strand Beach, Barna Woods, Rusheen Bay Bird Sanctuary, Barna Tennis Courts, Spiddal Craft Village, the Aran Islands, Salthill Promenade and many other superb amenities.

Or pop into the lively city of Galway to hear traditional music, watch street entertainment or attend many of the festivals that are held throughout the year, including the famous Galway Races (end July), Galway Arts festival, Volvo Ocean Race, Powerboat racing at the docks and Salthill, Oyster festivals, Cúirt Literary festival, Medieval Festival, and many more. There are Farmer's Markets in nearby Spiddal (Thursdays) and Moycullen (Fridays) and of course the well-known Galway Market on Saturdays.

“Excellent stay at Barna Cottage for Two” The cottage was very clean and modern. In my opinion the cottage was nice. It had a fridge, washing machine, kettle, toaster, microwave, bed linen, towels, tea towels, hair dryer, electric cooker, plates, utensils, wardrobe, TV, Wifi, etc – everything we needed really. The Cottage is in a quiet and peaceful place. It is about 1.5 Km from Barna Village where you find nearby beaches, various shops and Restaurants, a Supermarket and a lovely Hotel (The Twelve). We stayed for a week in this cottage in July 2012. We all had a fabulous time. The hosts, Annette and Carlos, were brilliant and really genuine people, friendly, warm and very helpful anytime with the local guide and some local advice on where to go and what to do. On arrival, they make you feel at home. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a lovely peaceful holiday, away from the bustle of the city centre.

“Everything you could need.” The fully equipped chalet was perfect for my needs, being clean, cosy and comfortable at the end of a long day's hiking etc. The bathroom was a bit small but still worked well. Great kitchen facilities. The owners would go out of their way to make sure everything was just right. Located in a rural setting, just one mile up the hill from Barna pier, beach and village, it is also only a short drive / bus ride into Galway City or out into the wilds of Connemara. Buses for the ferries to the Aran Islands also pick up in the village. Plus points are that the chalet is quiet and peaceful. Negative points? Hard to think of any!
