The North Wales region

The Mawddach Estuary is located on the west coast of Wales between the town of Barmouth to the north and Fairbourne to the south. The great beauty of the Mawddach estuary is well documented. The famous Victorian John Ruskin said that there is "no better walk than from Barmouth through to Dolgellau other than from Dolgellau to Barmouth". The views of the Snowdonia mountains sweeping down to the Mawddach estuary are phenomenal.

Walkers, cyclists and nature lovers appreciate the Mawddach estuary and indeed the southern bank of the Mawddach estuary, along which used to run a section of the GWR branch line from Ruabon to Barmouth, has now been designated the Mawddach Trail, an 8 mile path running from Dolgellau to Morfa Mawddach, at the southern side of the Barmouth railway bridge. It is managed by the Snowdonia National Park Authority as a leisure route for walkers and cyclists, and is part of the Sustrans Cross-Wales Cycling Route.

Barmouth

The area is a Mecca for lovers of the great outdoors, with superb hill walking, canoeing, kayaking and cycling all from the doorstep. Pony rides on the beach, sea, lake and estuary fishing (Sea Bass, Plaice, Salmon, Sea trout), local golf courses, as well as railway trips to historic sites such as Harlech castle are just some of the many things to do. Food lovers will also enjoy the many restaurants and local produce of the surrounding areas. The area is simply stunning.

"Number 3 Mawddach Crescent - English/Canadian family vacation!"

Fabulous house with lots of space to connect in a large group. House newly renovated to a high standard with many of its character features remaining. Kitchen well equipped except it has no microwav… More

"Ideal family accommodation with spectacular views"

Very friendly and helpful owners who have furnished the house to a straightforward but high standard with all the facilities necessary. Very comfortable beds and plenty of sitting areas either for eating or relaxing. There is a garden with BBQ and large table. The house overlooks the estuary where you can swim fish or boat but beware the tides! Barmouth is a 15 minute walk or shorter bike ride away over the railway bridge where you can find pubs, restaurants, shops and takeaways. There are other pubs and restaurants nearby.
Barmouth also has a boat dock where you can take fishing or sightseeing trips, as well as a very fine beach. Altogether you couldn't beat this as an excellent venue for a family holiday.

"Wonderful Time"

Great experience with the owner from start to finish.

The home has recently been renovated and is comfortable and spacious with very good beds, great showers, plenty of hot water, large kitchen able to deal with bigger groups. There were 14 of us and we were all able to sit down with space to spare at the dining table. Internet and phone is provided if you need it. A recently added pergola in the back garden gave welcome shade when seated at the long table outside.

Barmouth is a 30 minute brisk walk away, across a pedestrian/bike wooden railway bridge, offering panoramic views of the beautiful Mawddach Estuary. Half way there is a grassy area we used to play a little football, fly kites and go fishing in the small (but tidal) stream. Barmouth was a bustling town perched above a large beach.

Most of our time was spent at the house or in the immediate area, swimming in the estuary at low tide, playing on the sandbanks once we had swum across the channel. Fishing off the wall one member of our group caught a 3lb sea bass. Collecting mussels on the bottom of the channel. Savoring the ever changing view of the estuary. Eating, talking, playing games, reading, photography and just relaxing.

I would recommend this place to anyone who likes the comforts of home, on the doorstep of a great outdoor adventure. Our group had small children, teenagers and adults. We were all able to enjoy ourselves.

Our stay was blessed with fine weather for most of the week. We had plenty of space inside to play, talk and eat when we couldn't get outside.

For a large family holiday we couldn't have done better then 3 Mawddach.

"Fantastic house, location, views and walks!"

Newly refurbished, well equipped kitchen and good furniture. The house was lovely and warm and so was the welcome!
