The North Wales region
Situated half way between the coastal towns of Barmouth and Harlech, the village of Dyffryn Ardudwy is ideally situated for access to the Cambrian coast and the beautiful scenery of Snowdonia. There is a wonderful beach nearby, ideal for swimming, but if it's rock pooling you would rather do then the beach of Llandanwg, about 4 miles away is perfect. If it's history you enjoy then visit Harlech, Criccieth, Caernarfon or Conwy castles while there is plenty of opportunity for rail enthusiasts with the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland railways both located in Porthmadog, about 16 miles away. For walkers, the Rhinog mountains are close by as well as the mountains of Snowdon and Cader Idris. The area abounds in lakes and rivers and both Cwm Nantcol and Cwm Bychan are well worth a visit either on foot or by car. As well as two cafes in Dyffryn there are also two pubs - the Ael Y Bryn on the main road and the Cadogan which is near the railway station. In Llanbedr ,3 miles away. you can choose to eat/drink at either the Victoria pub or the Ty Mawr hotel. For a particularly scenic drink or meal visit the George, made famous by the poet Gerard Manley Hopkins ,which is located at Penmaenpool and has beautiful views across the Mawddach estuary. For those who like to bring their bikes ( storage can be made available) the area around Coed Y Brenin, north of Dolgellau, is perfect with many purpose built bike paths. Or, cycle along the Mawddach trail and enjoy a drink in the George, previously mentioned. You can access the trail from Barmouth by crossing the footbridge by the railway line. Other places worth visiting include the Italianate village of Portmeirion, made famous by the TV series ' The Prisoner ' and the Llechwedd slate caverns in Blaenau Ffestiniog, an area rich in slate mining history. To sum up, while we cannot guarantee the weather for your stay, the area does offer plenty of things to do and interesting places to visit.

"A peaceful paradise"
From the initial arrival, the warmest of welcomes, to our departure we were delighted with this beautiful cottage. The cottage is well maintained and contains everything to make your stay comfortable, it's bright and light, clean and the garden is beautiful. The owner loves his gardening and has produced a lovely area outside the cottage in which to enjoy the surrounding beauty. There's a small stream outside that makes a calming and delightful feature. The cottage is up the side of a hill, surrounded by fields with sheep & cattle, there's a public footpath to one side and a shady lane leading down into the village where you'll find a post office, Spar, butchers and a couple of nice cafes. You'll need a car if you want to go exploring and there's Barmouth & Harlech, Portmeirion, Portmaddog within a few short miles. And lots of lovely beaches with golden sands.
Liked the calmness and tranquillity of the place best, the owners didn't "get in the way too much" but you felt they were there if needed - just the right balance.
We had our dog with us but the garden isn't fully enclosed, not the owners fault, and they helped us to "block" up a couple of escape points. This allowed us to relax in the garden without worrying about the dog "escaping".
There's no WIFI which is a good thing as you relax more, however, there's an internet café at the bottom of the hill if you need to be in contact.
We loved our stay and hope to return, nicest holiday we've had in years.
