Holmesfield: Holmesfield Holmesfield is a Parish based around two centres of population; the village of Holmesfield itself, and the hamlet of Millthorpe. It is made up of a number of farming hamlets situated above the Cordwell Valley.
The village is very pleasantly situated in a highly respectable neighbourhood and contains several very genteel habitations. The Parish extends beyond Owler Bar to the West and towards Dronfield to the East.
The centre of the parish is marked by St Swithins parish church, which was built in 1826, which can be seen from almost all of the surrounding areas. Amongst the local amenities are eight pubs, (including The Angel Inn, Horns Inn, Travellers Rest Inn and the George & Dragon) and a number of restaurants; both a football and cricket pitch, a village hall (that can be booked by members of the public) and a host of groups and societies to accommodate many an interest, and the parish’s most recent addition, the Vicarage was added in 1999.
Areas of Interest within walking distance: Fanshawe Gate Hall in Holmesfield is one of the most popular private gardens in north Derbyshire. It combines traditional cottage garden planting with magnificent topiary and water features. Holmesfield’s important buildings are Holmesfield Hall, dated 1613, with additions built in the 18th century, and Woodthorpe Hall, a large 17th century, gabled manor house, dated 1636.
Peak District: The property overlooks the Peak National Park - where there is an abundance of things to do. Every activity you can imagine is available in some shape or form. Over 22 million people visit the Peak District every year and when you get here ..you'll know why. If you are a keen walker - a guide can be arranged a very reasonable fee to arrange day walks taking in some of the finest views in Europe! Just let the owners know in advance.
If you are interested in off road mountain biking then there are plenty of tracks. Hathersage village (7 miles away) has a great heated outdoor pool that is open from April - end September and is definitely worth a visit. Chatsworth House is 6 miles away and is a must visit!
Other Activities: Close to Chatsworth House, Hathersage, Bakewell, Haddon Hall and many other historical points of interest

"Loved the garden"
We stayed here as a group of friends on a weekend walking trip. The house was as described, and ticked all the boxes for us. We especially enjoyed the garden and hot tub and games tables. The large lounge and kitchen was perfect for a large group, and was well equipped. We had no complaints other than slow running drains, which the owner promised to look at after our departure, as it wasn't possible in the time we were there. Other than that it was great! The owner was easily contactable and although away, checked in with us by phone shortly after our arrival to check if there was any problems that she could arrange to be sorted.

"Absolutely beautiful, breath-taking views, cant wait to return!"
11 of us stayed at the robin hood from the 16th – 18th May for my hen party and absolutely loved it. The house is beautiful and the views from the garden are incredible. I miss sitting at the dining table looking out over the countryside, really didn't want to come home. We had everything we needed for the weekend and the kitchen was more than ample to cook in.
The house is located a 10minute drive from burbage where we went walking on the Saturday and had lunch at the fox house pub which was delicious. Another 15minute down the road is castleton which is a lovely little town which we also visited. We went into Sheffield for one evening which is around a 20minute drive away, cost £16 in a taxi for 6 people. We played table football, pool, table tennis and went in the hot tub on the Friday night which was perfect for a girly night in.
Cannot think of anything to complain about at all, phone signal was pretty poor which you expect in the countryside but you could always get on the wifi in the kitchen and in some of the bedrooms. Wifi wasn't great in the lounge but this wasn't really an issue as we could just go into the kitchen if needed.
The house was perfect for my hen do as it is located in the beautiful countryside however many towns aren't too far away to drive to so we had the best of both worlds.
Please don't contemplate booking this place out for your holiday, you will not regret it. I hope to return again next year
Thank you for this lovely review and for sharing your recommendations for walks etc with others it is great for those who follow. The 400 year old walls do make the wifi challenging in some rooms sometimes but as you say the kitchen is best locaition! We look forward to welcoming you again..perhaps next time as Mr & Mrs. Best of luck for your big day.

Thanks for your feedback, the wifi is now fixed, we changed the system and unfortunately the weekend you were there we had some teething issues. We have a pool table and table football, we used to have a table tennis table but changed it about a year ago. We have updated the site, but we left a net, bats and balls, so if kids want to they can play on the lounge table when not in use. Hope to see you again.
