The Tuscany region

The house is situated in its own private grounds of flat fields and woodlands in a private and rural location. It is less than 15 minutes drive from the nearest town of Barga, which has all amenities.

It is well situated for visiting many famous Italian cities such as Lucca, Pisa, Siena, Pisa, Florence, Rome and Venice, as well as coastal areas, either by train or car. It is a good location for exploring the magnificent Tuscan countryside, mountain ranges and National Parks, as well as classic hill top towns and villages and discovering the culture, charm and natural beauty of the area, as well as sampling local produce, cheeses and wines.

The native trees are mostly chestnut and acacia. Chestnuts are historically, and still are, an important food source for the local communities with several flour mills still operating in the region. Porcini mushrooms are also to be found in the area and are much prized. There is an interesting variety of wildlife, many species of birds, wildflowers, butterflies and red squirrels.

Barga hosts several annual Summer events including an Opera Festival and Jazz Festival. It has an 11th century Cathedral, several Churches, theatre, museum and has quaint cobbled winding streets in the Old Town. There is a selection of cafes and restaurants to suit most palettes at attractive prices, a weekly market and a wide variety of shops. There are also many festivals and concerts held throughout the area in the Summer season, some of them are free of charge. There is an open air public swimming pool in Barga which is open every day in the Summer months and in nearby Gallicano there is a covered pool which is open all year round.
