Situated in the midst of the countryside just 6 kms from the beautiful mediaeval town of Barga and 1 hour north of Lucca, sits Agritiglio.

The property is a traditional farm building, newly refurbished, and split into three charming one bedroom apartments, each sharing the brand new 12M x 6M swimming pool which has stunning views across to the Apuane alps.

The apartment has a traditional feel, with beamed ceilings, and chestnut windows, yet there are modern comforts such as a hand made kitchen, with oven, hob, fridge/freezer, pristine shower room, and spacious bedroom with good quality furniture. There is a shared laundry room.

Outside, each apartment has its own eating area.

There are extensive grounds with beautiful views surrounding the site, and an ample pool of 12M x 6M, with roman steps, and hydromassage area.

There are often outdoor concerts/plays performed many times free of charge, usually based on the classics/jazz, and during the festas the town often puts on wonderful firework displays.

About this location

The Tuscany region

The Tuscan Region of Italy is well known for its warm balmy summers, beautiful countryside, rolling hills, mouth - watering food, and of course its towns and villages, rich with mediaeval architecture…

The Garfagnana region of Tuscany, often known as its ‘Green Lung’ is situated away from the milling crowds that can often be found at the most famous Tuscan locations and is totally unspoilt, remaining untouched by tourism.

The scenery is spectacular, green and mountainous with views of both the Apuane and Appenine mountains at every turn…And, due to the altitude whilst the weather can be very hot, it is always pleasantly cool for sleeping…

The food is usually home made, using home grown produce, and is typically simple and extremely tasty. Prices here remain very reasonable due to the fact that food is prepared with the locals, and not tourists in mind…The local wine is cheap and surprisingly drinkable!

The pace of life is slow and peaceful – spend your days enjoying secluded picnics, swimming in rivers, or watching locals play bocce or ‘cheese throwing’. Visit hundreds of ancient hill top villages, or relax at home basking in stunning scenery.

For ‘townie’ days, visit the mediaeval towns of Barga, Lucca, Castelnuovo, with Pisa and Florence within easy reach too…

"A retreat away in the hills with a wonderfully welcoming and friendly host family"

We really enjoyed our time in italy but our highlight had to be staying at this agritourismo. For sure not for everyone, but the idillic peacefulness was just what we needed. Plus dinners al fresco with the host and extended family were a unique and special experience i wont forget. In relatively easy reach of vinyards and olive groves, but you will need to be prepared to drive up the hill to get to the agritourismo and then up a driveway not suitable for all cars.
