The Normandy region

Le Trou Normand is situated just outside Barfleur one of 'Les Plus Beaux Villages de France.' Barfleur was a leading port in the middles ages and is still a vibrant fishing port today. It is a delightful village with a lovely church, plenty of restaurants and an amazing range of shops from gift boutiques to antique and food shops and a weekly market. If you would like a magical afternoon reserve a table at Les Amuseurs to be entertained by Jan Madd with his wizardry and illusions. Just outside the village are lots of fabulous beaches, two of which are a few minutes walk from the house. The local beaches are great for swimming and rock pooling, easily entertain every age group.

Barfleur

Nearby in the St Vaast La Hougue (15 mins drive) there are more restaurants, Gosselin's amazing emporium and wine cellar and various other lovely shops. You could travel out to Isle de Taithou on the amphibious vehicle to visit the bird reserve and maritime museum and walk back through the oyster beds as well.

Other local villages inlude Quetthou which has a couple of large supermarkets, Gatteville with one of the tallest lighthouses in Europe which you can visit on certain days and Montfarville church with its beautiful frescoes by Guillaume Fouace. Then further afield there is Bayeaux, the Normandy Landing Beaches and Mont St Michel and many other fabulous places for a day out.

"The perfect place for a short relaxing break"

Lovely, well equipped house within easy reach of the village and beaches. We cycled for bread, ran the coastal path, walked to a beautiful sandy, and empty beach, had day trips out to all the Normandy beaches and Bayeaux. We came back feeling refreshed and relaxed. 25 mins to the ferry at Cherbourg. We will be going again!
