Our charming gite is a magnificent place from which to explore the treasures of Normandy while enjoying fine food and experiencing a new culture! A center for apples and pear orchards, as well as the production of calvados, this area offers gorgeous views and interesting opportunities in all seasons. Our neighbourhood village, Barenton, is conveniently located for visits to a number of popular tourist attractions including Le Mont St. Michel, the Bayeux Tapestry, the Normandy Landing beaches, Domfront, the Grand Cascades of Mortain and many other points of interest. Barenton, 2.9 kms from Bonsentier, has a small supermarket, a butcher, a doctor (he is also the mayor), a hardware shop, a restaurant/bar, and, of course, the patisserie/boulangerie for fresh croissants, pain de chocolat and baguettes. Taste the local delicacies at some excellent nearby restaurants or cook at 'home' using fresh, home-grown produce from one of the nearby weekly markets. Enjoy an elegant pace of life among friendly people in scenic places filled with history or simply relax with a book/kindle under the patio awning in a peaceful garden setting. Located in wooded, rolling hills in the middle of Normandy farming countryside, Bonsentier Gite offers a relaxing respite with many stimulating experiences and activities within easy driving distance.

It has a spacious open plan ground floor with living room, dining room and kitchen. The fully-fitted oak kitchen is well equipped with cooker, hob, fridge, microwave and washing machine providing all the amenities required during your visit. The lounge has English TV, video and DVD players with a library of videos and DVDs to appeal to a variety of tastes.

Located on the first floor is an attractive bathroom with shower, toilet and sink, and the first bedroom with a double bed and pine furniture. The second floor mezzanine bedroom has a double bed, skylight and pine furniture. An additional bedroom with twins beds is located through this room on the second floor.

The Normandy region

This is the land of rural agricultural Normandy with miles of apple and pear orchards, magnificent in blossom season, as well as extensive sandy coastlines still quite undeveloped and perfect for enjoying a relaxing day at the beach. Everywhere there are reminders of the history of this region with famous chateaus and cathedrals and, of course the Normandy Landing Beaches. Le Mont St Michel, one of the most visited attractions in France dominates the landscape with its magnificent spires and turrets rising from white sands and tidal bay. A number of old towns and cities with their own specialties are well worth a visit such as Villedieu-Les-Poeles, long famous for its copper industry, and the Musee Regional du Cidre in Valognes. Granville has a huge Mardi Gras celebration each year and the medieval town of Domfront has its annual festival. Besides calvados and camembert, there are many local traditions and delicacies, galette Normande is well worth a try! Monet's gardens at Giverny are a must for garden lovers and Rouen with its history, tied to Joan of Arc, is yet another fantastic. The question is not what to do but where to begin and what can be omitted while still enjoying a relaxing and stimulating visit!

Barenton is a biker's delight. Routes through St. Cyr and other neighbouring hamlets are in frequent use by both individuals and clubs. The Tour de France (29 June-21 July) will travel through Mont St. Michel, Avranches and Fougeres, July 9, 10, and 11 this year, Walkers will find numerous trails around Barenton/Ger, Mortain, Sourdeval and St-Hilaire-du-Harcouet. A local guide lists 36 different loops ranging from 6 - 27 kms and taking from 2 - 7 hours. Hiking the GR22 (passing less than a mile from Bonsentier) across the Orne and Manche from Bagnoles de l'Orne to the Mont Saint Michel via Lessard (Juvigny-sous-Andaine) Domfront The Nocherie (Saint-Bomer-les-Forges), * Upper Chapel, The Neufbourg, Bellefontaine, Sourdeval Brouains, St. Peas, The Little Celland, St Senier in Avranches, Val Holy Father Céaux, Courtils, Huisnes-sur-Mer, La Rive (Ardevon) and Beauvoir, is about 156 kms.
