The Piedmont region
Bardonecchia is a popular resort amongst Italian and foreign tourists and it offers plenty of activities and entertainment both during the day and in the evenings. Trekking, mountain biking, horse riding are particularly popular in the summer months, but there is also an Olympic swimming pool, a golf course and tennis courts. For more restful activities you can take advantage of a well supplied library or the local cinema with two showings a day. The local festival hall hosts exhibitions and evening plays and concerts. Lots of interesting public events are also organized by the local council in the busy months of July and August. Bars, restaurants and shops offer plenty of choice of course.
Bardonecchia's skiing areas have always been favoured by the Turin crowds, but outside the weekends and peak holiday periods the pistes are much quieter and queuing is virtually unknown. Bardonecchia played host to some key events in the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics, including the snowboarding giant slalom and half pipe and the women's downhill . The three main ski areas are linked by a ski navette, free with a weekly lift pass, that can also take you directly from the flat to the slopes. Most pistes are fitted with artificial snow-making machines and good snow conditions are therefore ensured throughout the season. The higher runs reach up to 2800 mt and are generally blessed with excellent snow and fantastic views right across to the French Alps. In total there are 23 lifts, 9 chair and 14 drag for 170Km of marked piste. An extension to the lift pass to cover the famous Milky Way area is also available for those who want to explore the popular resorts of Montgenevre (in France), Claviere (on the Italian-French border), San Sicario, Sestriere and Sauze d'Oulx with more than 500Km of groomed pistes in total.
Bardonecchia also offers a range of activities for the non-skiers and après ski, including an indoor swimming pool (30% discount with lift pass), cinema, festival hall, weekly markets, shops and plenty of bars and restaurants.

"Great little apartment with a touch of vintage flare"
We stayed here as a group of five friends for four days (three nights). Great location for Bardonecchia town centre where we had an amazing time skiing in the local mountains. Restaurants, supermarkets, delicatessens and souvenir shops are all a short walk away. The busiest local spots seemed to be the pizzerias and a few bars and restaurants on and just off the main road. This definitely is NOT a party town, I would describe it as traditional with supermarkets closing pretty early and I don't even think they bother to open on Sundays. Generally nice for couples, families and sensible younger people (ie. not a party town). We hired a car and had fun getting stuck in the snow whilst trying to get up the hill. The locals watched in amusement as we struggled for the best part of two hours in freezing temperatures trying to put snow chains on (I advise you to practice putting snow chains on your vehicle in a controlled environment if you're planning on going during the winter season as we weren't the only ones who got stranded). Anyway, I digress... The flat is large enough to comfortably hold six (Bunk beds in one room, two single beds in the living room and a double bed in the master bedroom that is pretty much two singles pushed together). The decor is erm... traditional?! Or maybe vintage, which we found quite fun. There is also a balcony that spans the length of the flat and a decent shower. So in summary; don't expect a 5 star star apartment, as you won't get it, but it fit the bill for us in terms of being tidy, clean, comfortable and conveniently placed for the town centre and skiing. Also, the owner was great and left clear instructions for us. Would recommend for good basic accommodation and facilities. Enjoy!

"Very enjoyable stay. Exactly as described."
Very detailed directions given on how to get to apartment both walking and by car. Full instructions on how to operate different appliances / functions in the apartment. Very helpful that we were met in apartment and shown round. The owner contacted who made sure we were happy with every thing. Parking was right outside. Location within minutes of the main hight street and shopping area. Was a locker on site for skis but due to fact have children made more sense to actually hire locker at Campo Smith for ease. Bus stop again with in minutes of apartment. Had everything that we needed for our stay. Would recommend and would gladly stay there again.
