The Costa Brava/Catalonia region
The Costa Brava is a 160 kilometre stretch of beautiful, rugged coastline in the region of Catalonia in the North East corner of Spain with the endless miles of sandy beaches and summer sunshine. Situated in the north-east of the Iberian peninsula, with the Pyrenean natural border separating it from France to the north, and bordered by the Mediterranean sea to the east, and the autonomous communities of Aragón and Valencia to the west and south, respectively, Catalonia (Catalunya to its inhabitants) is a nation of 6 million people, occupying a 32,000 km2 territory.
The weather is pleasant for most of the year. However you'll experience the absolute best weather from May to the end of July making these months particularly attractive for a visit to the city. September is also a good month. August is generally hot (sometimes peaking around 34°C, 95F ) and humid. The weather in October and November is still pleasant but starting to get a little cooler (21°C down to 15°C, 69 to 59F). You won't find sunshine every day though, so be prepared for days when it could be overcast with a little rain. From November to February the temperatures are cooler, averaging around 12°C or 53F. It doesn't tend to rain a lot here in Winter so even though it may be cooler, often times you'll have some sunny days too. But do be prepared for some overcast and rainy days.
After Spain´s dictator Franco's death (1975), the Spanish transition to democracy, and the adoption of a democratic Spanish constitution (1978), Catalonia recovered cultural autonomy and some political autonomy. Today, Catalonia is almost universally recognized as one of the most economically dynamic regions of Spain and Barcelona became one of the most dynamic and attractive cities of Europe, in the eyes of both its people and the many visitors from all over the world who flow in, attracted by its architecture, its culture, its beaches, and, of course, its people. Have a very pleasant stay!
