I am pleased to offer you my newly refurbished 1870's apartment, which is ideal for couples, families and friends that are looking for beautiful, spacious and high-quality accommodation that is within walking distance of Barcelona's major attractions.
CENTRAL LOCATION: The apartment is perfectly located for easy access to the city's main tourist destinations, from Gaudi's famous modernist buildings, to the trendy medieval neighborhoods of El Born & Gothic (South). Within a 15-minute walk you can be in Plaza Catalunya, Las Ramblas and Passeig de Gracia (West), La Sagrada Famila (North), Parc Ciutadella, El Born or on the beach in Barceloneta (Eest). If you don't want to walk, the metro and buses stop within a block of the apartment. There are restaurants, cafes and grocery stores only a few steps away - so you will never go hungry!
EXPERIENCE BARCELONA'S FAMOUS MODERNIST ARCHITECTURE: My apartment is on the top-floor of a prestigious Eixample corner building, so it has lots of sunshine and an amazing view. It also has a marble staircase and a beautiful antique wooden elevator with passenger seats to effortlessly take you to the fifth floor.
STYLISH, UNIQUE, COMFORTABLE ACCOMMODATION: I recently refurbished the apartment in a way that highlights the classic grandeur of the building and the colorful floor tiles for which Barcelona is world-renowned. Throughout the flat you will see unique pieces of furniture and decorations combined with new high-quality furnishings to give you a sense of the original style in a contemporary setting. The apartment is big (150 sqm), it has high ceilings and a large living room and dining area that seats up to 8-9 people (the picture only shows 6 chairs but there are an additional two store in the master bedroom).
FOUR SPACIOUS BEDROOMS: The four double bedrooms range in size from 12 to 16 sqm. Two of the bedrooms have adjoining doors that can be closed and therefore are suitable as separate rooms or perfect for parents with smaller children who want easy access. All beds have extra wide queen-size Somma comfort mattresses (160 x 200 cm / 63 x 80 inches). The bed in one of the bedrooms is set up as two singles but can also function as a double. Every room has full-length double doors leading onto the balconies, big wardrobes and closets and a unique and fun decorative style.
Air mattress can be made available for a 9th person.
TWO LARGE BATHROOMS: There are two bathrooms, one with shower and bath, and one with a standing shower. One bathroom can be closed off and function as an ensuite to one of the bedrooms.
FULLY EQUIPPED KITCHEN: that includes a dishwasher and a washing machine and all the necessary utensils etc for up to 8 people.

"Don't Look Any Further ... this is where you want to stay!"
As a group of 5 couples taking a cruise departing from Barcelona, we chose to arrive 4 days early and enjoy the sights, sounds and foods that this beautiful city could offer. My husband and I had been on a cruise a few years ago and had enjoyed one quick port day in Barcelona and we were looking forward to being able to more fully explore this cultural mecca. The big debate was trying to find suitable places to stay and with a larger group that became even more of a challenge. Luckily I am a fanatical trip researcher and it wasn't long before I presented the option of finding an apartment to the group. The loved the idea, especially when I showed them the cost comparison over staying in separate hotel rooms. I was grateful for Trip Advisor to navigate me through the ins and outs of the various districts in Barcelona so we could settle on the perfect area - and the perfect apartment - for us. As two of our group of ten were only coming for a day or two before the cruise, I narrowed the apartment search to 4 bedroom venues. When the listing for this apartment came up I bookmarked it as a potential and continued my search. Something kept bringing me back to Charles' apartment but it seemed too good to be true. The group was more than thrilled with the photos of the apartment. The bedrooms were beautiful, comfortable looking and still had that old world charm we wanted. Great price, great location, great amenities ... there had to be a catch! But ... there wasn't! I had never booked online via Trip Advisor before but after contacting Charles regarding availability of his property and a "few" other questions I had, I had no reservations about the process and it's security and I went online and booked the Gran Villa apartment. |Through the entire process, Charles was our "overseas angel"! He painstakingly answered every question I had and offered extremely helpful tips and suggestions that made our planning so much more efficient. He reassured me when I needed first hand knowledge about the plans our group was making about tours, etc. Although we had yet to meet, we all felt comfortable with "checking it out with Charles" knowing that we would receive helpful and prompt replies. Our mantra became "I don't know ... let's ask Charles!' As the date of our departure grew nearer, Charles was able to help me arrange for an extremely affordable transfer for the group from the airport to the hotel that beat the least expensive transfer I had researched by at least 10 Euro. Charles also made some helpful suggestions regarding our tour choices and options and we unquestionably took his advice to heart (and were VERY glad that we did!). He sent us a personalized e-welcome package of information that we could browse through and study on our 10 hour flight from Regina to Barcelona. As promised, our driver was waiting for us outside the baggage area at the airport and we were very impressed with his pleasant demeanor and his professionalism. He pointed out areas of interest along the way and expertly navigated his way through Barcelona's bustling traffic to deliver us safe and sound to the apartment. We were so excited! The apartment was even more impressive from the outside than the pictures even showed and the group was more than pleased with what they saw! We rang the apartment and Charles buzzed us in. Charles had sent us a detailed instruction on how to operate the lift, so it wasn't an issue for the guys to operate it and begin sending luggage up to the apartment. While some of the group stayed with the luggage in the foyer, others rode up the elevator to handle the bags at the final stop. I am proud to say some of us walked/ran the 5 flights of marbled steps to the top floor where Charles was waiting to welcome us. When we finally caught our breath (wow! We need to climb more stairs in Saskatchewan!) we were excited that we could finally put a face to Charles' name! He was as sweet in person as he sounded via email and he handled the excited banter of a group of 8 weary but hyper travellers with charm and dignity! He was extremely polite, accommodating and welcoming and I couldn't help but smother him with a big Canadian hug! After a guided tour of the apartment and a detailed peruse of the maps and other information he left on the table for us - personalized with the main sights we had spoken of in our many emails - he handed over 3 sets of vintage keys and left us to begin our Barcelona adventure! We were saddened to know Charles had prior commitments that would be taking him away from Barcelona for the duration of our visit but he promised to keep in touch with us via text. We knew we were in good hands regardless! The apartment was exceptional and was just as the photos on the listing showed. The beds were extremely comfortable and pillows fluffy - just like we like them! The air conditioning units in the 3 larger bedrooms kept us cool at night. The smallest bedroom (Comic Room) had no air conditioning though and the couple that stayed in that room chose it for the deck, not whether or not it had air conditioning! Each bedroom had access to a deck. The Penelope Room (our favorite room) where we stayed had it's own private deck and although it was too small to sit on we had a wonderful top floor view of the streetscape. Two sets of doors in the living and dining room opened onto the same view as we had in our room. If you could move a couple of apartment buildings kitty-corner to ours, we could have seen the infamous architectural landmark, the Torre Agbar (or Magic Bullet as some of us called it!). There were two full bathrooms in the apartment and the yellow bathroom doubled as an ensuite to the Penelope bedroom plus had a second door for access from the apartment. The other three bedrooms were separated from the Penelope Room and were on the other side of the living area. The master bedroom had a connecting door to the Comic bedroom and all three bedrooms on that side of the apartment had an outside door that opened onto a common balcony that ran along that length of the apartment. The balcony was large enough to walk on and had a couple of iron chairs and a bistro table that invited guests to sit and relax over a glass of wine and recount the memories of the day. The view from the balcony looked onto the side street and building across from us but that didn't take away from the ambiance. The fifth couple joined us for the last two days and Charles had arranged for an air mattress that they could use and for that we were very appreciative! A washing machine was conveniently located in the kitchen of the apartment but in lieu of a dryer, the balcony off the three bedrooms was equipped with a 3 strand clothes line that extended over the balcony. I had nightmares of losing an article of clothing or two down 5 stories onto the roof of the building below. That would have been a bit awkward to retrieve! Luckily we suffered not untoward laundry mishaps over the 4 days of our stay! The kitchen was fully equipped with appliances but we had no intention of cooking while we were there. A small store was situated on the side street across from our apartment (one minute walk at most) and this is where we stocked up on our liquor or snacks. A coffee shop was open across from the apartment on the afternoon we arrived, but alas, it wasn't open the entire time we were in Barcelona. No morning coffees for us! We all got through our coffee withdrawals remarkably quickly! The apartment was perfectly situated in the L'Eixample district on Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, and was a 12 - 15 minutes walk from Passeig de Gracia and Plaza Catalunya at the center of downtown Barcelona (where we caught the HOHO - Hop On Hop Off Bus) and a 10 minute walk from La Familia Sagrada (loved the restaurants in this area!) and more! Restaurants in the immediate area weren't hard to find; it was just hard to find restaurants that were "open" when we wanted to eat! Most restaurants didn't open their doors until after 6 or 7 pm and our tummies were still on home time so we were famished long before that! for those who don't want to walk, the metro is a block away and taxis can be picked up with little trouble! A good piece of advice I would recommend is to make sure everyone in your party has a card in their wallet or purse with the address of the apartment (or hotel) on it - wherever you travel. As beautiful as our apartment was, when we began our walk on our first day there, we soon realized EVERY corner apartment was designed with a chamfered corner like ours was and almost every building has wrought iron railings like ours did. We almost by-passed the apartment building the first time out because we were so busy looking around we had to think twice about what ours looked like. I took pictures of our street signs and apartment building so it was easy to go back to refer to the photos if we really had got lost, but the cards are a great idea. Here's why ... The second night in Barcelona, we decided to set off in search of the "Barcelona Bullet" so we could get some great couple's pictures with the lit up building in the background. It was dark - of course - and raining when we left and my husband and a couple of the others immediately set off in the wrong direction. Our senses of direction really got turned around and what felt like west was north and what felt like east was west! The only thing in my favor was that I had poured over the maps for weeks looking at apartment sites, tour sites and HOHO and metro routes (and in saying that, I even got twisted around one night - very disconcerting feeling to say the least!). So, having got the lost souls back on track to the direction of the Bullet, we were all walking in uncharted territory for us. After 20 minutes and a couple of road street construction detours we found ourselves on a beautiful bridge that afforded the most amazing photos of each of us with the glistening red and blue landmark in the background. That checked off our "to do" list, we now were in search of a place to eat. After asking two non-English speaking policemen on bicycles where we might eat, we were directed back to Catalunya, a good 40 minute walk back the way we came. As we were going past the apartment we planned to stop and drop off our rain gear before continuing on. During the walk back the group slowly split into 3 different segments ... the fast walkers, the mid-speed walkers and the pokey walkers. Normally in the first category, I held back to bridge the one block gap that had developed between the three segments of walkers. Half a block from the apartment, I watched to made sure the lead group made the turn to the apartment and the second group was paying attention to the lead group's direction. I turned back to meet up with the faster of the three in the slow group and asked her to wait for the guys to make sure they knew where they were going and that we would all meet in front of our building. I cut across the street to the little square in front of our building to take a quick photo of the fountain there before heading back to the apartment to catch up with the group. Big mistake! I got back to the apartment less than a minute later, expecting to see the full group there but we were the three stragglers short! One of the group had stayed outside while the others had gone upstairs and he had been watching for the last of the group and knew they didn't pass our corner. Knowing none of them had a cell phone that would pick up texts and that none of them had the card with the apartment address on it, we set off in search of our missing crew. After 20 anxious minutes we met them heading back from Catalunya toward the apartment. Having not been paying attention since we landed in Barcelona, the two hubbies had NO idea where they were and the wife I left to direct them the last half block to the hotel confessed she could get lost in an elevator and not one of them could have stopped to ask for directions to the apartment as they had no idea what the address even was! I felt horrible for having abandoned the three worst people to leave un-chaperoned and it was only a total fluke that we even stumbled across them! Instead of going the half block in the same direction they were walking in, they followed my path to the square and continued straight up that street! The other couple laughed it off as part of the adventure, and I'm sure some day my darling sweetie will see the humor in it, too ... yep, maybe some day! lol After that near-miss, everyone made sure to keep track of the "buddy" next to them and to find the happy medium speed and stick to it! Lesson learned ... pay attention to where you are, know your "home address" and carry the address card! It's fun to "get lost" in a city and see things you might not otherwise, but it's also nice to know you can find your way back home whenever you want to! In summary, we were very, very, very impressed with our host, our apartment, our location and our experience in Barcelona (my other Trip Advisor reviews will outline the rest of our adventures!). Thank you from the bottom of our hearts Charles. We will definitely recommend your apartment to all of our Spain-bound friends and family, and that includes you, dear reader! You won't go amiss with this property! L'Eixample

"A wonderful stay in a beautiful apartment."
Stayed in Barcelona for 4 days at the end of July with extended family, including two teenagers. We couldn't have hoped for a better apartment in such a convenient location. Beautiful old world charm (the lift is a real adventure into the past) coupled with all the modern conveniences we needed, including wifi, dishwasher, washing machine and air conditioning. The beds were so comfortable I had the best night's sleep in ages. We arrived a little early and were greeted by Sheila, who was finishing off a very thorough cleaning, leaving the apartment spotless. Barcelona is a great city offering something for all of our diverse party, and the information pack and map left by Charles (the owner) was invaluable. Although Charles was away travelling at the time, he was always available by email to answering any queries and to give further advice and information. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Barcelona, which was made all the better by our stay in this lovely apartment.

"Perfect place to stay in Barcelona"
Nine of us stayed in this charming, exceptionally clean, and roomy apartment. We would come back here in a heartbeat and two nights were not enough! The photos accurately portray all of the rooms, and the beds were very comfortable (great nights of sleep). Even though the building is on a busy road, the bedrooms were soundproof with the windows closed. Another plus was the air conditioning worked beautifully. As for the location, it was perfect for us. The metro was nearby if needed and there were restaurants within walking distance (Charles recommended the best restaurants - loved La Flauta). Usually the downside to renting an apartment vs. a hotel is you lose the benefit of front desk staff helping you navigate the city. Not an issue here. The owner, Charles, was amazing. While we didn't get the chance to personally meet him as he was out of town at the time, he was exceptionally responsive with emails, helping us with whatever questions we had. He even arranged transportation for us from the airport to the apartment and then from the apartment to the cruise port. The service he used was reasonable and so wonderful. He left a booklet for us in the apartment with suggestions on restaurants and what to see along with a city map. We felt like locals with our new found knowledge and Barcelona was that much more wonderful because of it. We were wanting for nothing other than more time here and we would definitely stay here again should we be so lucky to get the chance to return to Barcelona.

"Spacious 4 BR apartment convenient to Metro in Eixample."
We enjoyed our stay in the beautiful and spacious 4 BR apartment on Grand Via. The Metro stop was 1/2 block away and Passeig de Gracia was a 8-10 minute walk. The area was quiet at night and felt safe after dark. The landlord gave us a list of helpful hints and restaurant suggestions.

Stayed with 5 friends to celebrate my 40th birthday.the apartment was absolutely gorgeous, with lots of beautiful furniture. Gorgeous balconies on which to enjoy some afternoon sunshine after a morning sightseeing. Fabulous location, walking distance to many great attractions. Charles was very helpful, recommending restaurants (fabulous Salamanca for paella), booking taxis and allowing us to store luggage. Lovely attention to detail leaving postcards ready stamped! Would definitely stay here again and would recommend it!

"A magnificent find!"
This was an absolute gem of a find! The building was stunning with a very traditional lift to take 4 up at a time to an amazing apartment. Every room was as nice as the next one, we had the Penelope suite, next to the yellow bathroom, a great view, all had balconies and views. Wardrobes, hangers, bedside lamps, hairdryers, lovely bedding, comfy beds, BIG fluffy towels, all home comforts. A great communal area for us to sit around in. A well equipped kitchen, if you wanted to cook, but we ate out, except for breakfast. The idea of us all being together was a great one, much better than booking hotel rooms and having to meet in the reception at a set time, I don't think any of us would have no qualms in booking this apartment again. Perfect location - I’m ready to book again !! I would certainly recommend these apartments to other groups of friends. Charles was more than helpful and very knowledgeable on the area and places to visit, he recommended a lovely restaurant for our Saturday night out, Sensi, great tapas. Till the next time!!

This flat was fairly new, but it had great reviews. I am an frequent Tripadvisor user and trust people's review on here. This one deserves the highest rating. The flat is situated in a beautiful and quiet part of Barcelona. The building itself is beautiful and the antique elevator ride quite the experience bringing you up the last floor (only two big apartments per floor. We stepped into this massive spacious flat with the beautiful classic Eixample floor tiles. There were four of us, but the flat would be great for four couples or more as the bedrooms are very big. The flat sits on the corner of the building so there is a beautiful view of the neighborhood. Each room is tastefully decorated with old and modern furniture. Really beautiful. It feels like you have stepped into a high-end boutique hotel but with a very personal touch. The location is amazing as well! It is literally just next to everywhere. A 15-minute walk took us to the marina, Las Ramblas, Sagrada Familia, Plaza Catalunya and Passeig de Gracia. For longer trips, the metro is right there, a 3min walk away. The host was really nice, efficient and accurate in accommodating us and guiding us in the days we spent in Barcelona. As we only spent a few days there, his suggestions optimized our time and improving our choices. His suggestions for restaurants were spot on. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
