The Costa Brava/Catalonia region

As many other European regions, Barcelona has well defined seasons in which temperatures and general weather are fairly predictable. Being a coast city, the relative humidity level is very high, always around 70%.

The warmest season is between June to August, with temperatures that sometimes can go higher than 30 degrees (Celsius), perfect for a holiday close to the sea. Enjoy the beaches and pools, walk the city wearing light clothing or just relax and have a cold drink at the various terraces available in the city.

Barcelona / Central Barcelona area

Undoubtedly, the Born has become a fashionable area of Barcelona nowadays. This quarter close to the sea has been modernized and reconverted into a dizzying rhythm over the past few years. And the result has been more than positive. Fashion stores, attractive locations for cocktails, wine shops, restaurants and bars have give Barcelona a cosmopolitan and fashion touch which characterizes a city like Barcelona.

Here you'll find the second most important cathedral of the city, Santa Maria del Mar, one of the most representative Gothic temples of this style. Famous for not only its artistic particularities but for its privileged location that still makes it spectacular.

This was the place where the craftsmen and different guilds had their workshops. Therefore, it is not strange that many streets are named after the offices of those who worked before.

It is exactly in Argentería street, which leads to Santa Maria del Mar Cathedral, where we can find a clear example of how the Born area has changed. Tapas bars, restaurants and fashion shops located where small workshops with craftsmen once worked with metal and silver.

Certainly, the main artery of such a fashionable area is Passeig del Born. Its street and wide space invites us to take a tranquil walk and we almost forget that we are in the crowded centre of the immense Catalonian capital. Continue walking and you will get to the Born market, a building that you will identify immediately thanks to its impressive iron structure built in 1870. It is a covered market, actually in construction, where a new museum of history will be located as old Roman ruins were recently discovered there. This decision was made in February 2002, by chance, when ruins of the medieval city were disovered.

It is highly recommendable to take a walk in all the streets of the Born, a delight for the lovers of a “cool” and “fashionable” atmosphere and also perfect for those who prefer the tranquillity of an area where artistic attractions like Picasso Museum are located in Montcada street.

We can say that this area has two edges: one is cultural and diurnal, and another is nocturnal, more self-assured and animated, though it does not last into the peak hours of the dawn...
