Booked this apartment online (the company was very organised/ efficient). On arrival we found it was on the third floor of an apartment building (luckily there is a lift!), apartment 1. It is a modern, well furnished, spacious apartment with all mod cons including air con, wifi and Sky tv, plus washing machine, drier etc... There are 2 bedrooms (plus bed settee in living room), 2 bathrooms, a good sized living/ dining room, long thin kitchen (+ tiny utility room at its end) and a balcony (overlooking the back yards of a whole street, not the prettiest view but interesting!). We felt very safe (the local manager met us on arrival and was our contact for any problems), the apartment building is accessed by a lockable gated door. The area of Poble Nou is lively with a couple of bars right next to the apartment plus restaurants and supermarkets nearby. These were all frequented by local Spaniards so we felt like we were experiencing the 'real' Barcelona (and also that we were not paying through the nose for it too!). The beach was a 15 minute walk and there are a couple of beach umbrellas in the apartment. The Poble Nou Rambla is only a 10 minute walk and has lots of great bars/ restaurants (I actually preferred it to the main Rambla in the centre of Barcelona). We paid 144 euros per night for 4 nights stay plus 60 euros for the cleaner, which was more than I had originally bargained for but it was well worth it as it was an excellent apartment and location. My top tips for Barcelona. Best bargain is the T10 (ten trip) travel ticket which cost 9.25 euros and cover the metro, buses, trams and train from/ to the airport. These lasted us 5 days. You can use one trip for multiple forms of transport as long as you change within 1 hour and 15 minutes. The nearest metro station was a 2 minute walk from the apartment too! Don't bother with the bus tours these are too busy, expensive and you can do most of the routes using your T10 ticket. If you want to go inside the Sagrada Familia get there dead early (8am) otherwise you will queue for hours or do what we did and have a drink in a nearby cafe and just admire the view! Park Guell is worth a visit but it's a long walk from the nearest metro. My favourite place was Castell de Montjuic (free entry), you can use your T10 ticket all of the way there (including the funicular train) and avoiding the cable car (expensive) get the local bus instead. Have a great holiday!
Poble Nou (meaning new village) is full of trendy boutiques and fashionable restaurants. The sandy beach is unspoilt and less crowded than the more central Barceloneta Beach. Wonderful sea food restaurants line the shore here with chill-out terraces to kick back on and soak up the sun. Poble Nou is situated away from the crowds of down-town Barcelona however accessing the city centre is simple by metro and is a mere 10 minute ride. Take the metro from POBLE NOU (located 30 seconds from the apartment) to JAUME I and you will arrive at the historical, medieval winding streets and alleys for El borne, full of tapas bars, restaurants, mueums and sights. Closer to home try Rambla de Poble Nou for lunch or dinner, soak up the sun on a tree lined terrace with a plate of tapas. For a spot of retail therapy the new shopping area of Diagonl Mar is within a 10 minute walk of Poble Nou, with shops galore, cinemas and bowley alleys this area is perfect for the young and old alike.
The flat is a 15 min. stroll or 10 min. brisk walk to the beach. There are several fruit and vegetable shops, a supermarket, bars for a morning coffee and sweet roll or for a beer or wine in the evening, and several bakeries just steps away from the flat, almost one on every corner. There is also a large market 5 minutes away on foot that sells fresh fish, meat, cheese, and ready-made take-out dishes on the ground floor (Mercat del Poble Nou) and a large supermarket on the floor above. The main promenade is the Rambla del Poble Nou is 3 minutes away (a smaller version of the more famous Rambla in downtown Barcelona). It has many restaurants, and shops of all kinds (clothes, shoes, toys, etc.).
The most popular attraction is the beach which is close, clean, and a great place to go morning and afternoon. There are so many places to eat on the Rambla that it's hard to recommend one: Rest. de la Aliança del Poble Nou, La Tertulia are two that offer good, reasonably priced noon meals.
The flat is two minutes from the metro or underground, so you can go anywhere in Barcelona inexpensively and quickly.
