It has a unique design, is very cozy and has all the comforts from home: air conditioning, heating, full kitchen, plasma TV, DVD, stereo ..., and with full integration of new technologies: high-speed Internet, Wi Fi, Apple TV and the video game console Nintendo Wii + Wii Sports for leisure or for children.

Because of its exceptional location, it is very suitable for families with children or couples, for fine cuisine lovers, art and history lovers, for night adventurers, students, or as a base camp for business.

It is an alternative with advantages over a traditional hotel.

AN APARTMENT WITH CHARM AND HISTORY

The apartment has been renovated and furnished in a contemporary and modern style by a famous architect. It was published in prestigious national and international decoration magazines. The eighteenth-century building is a marvel, full of history but completely restored and updated, keeping historical elements and combining them with cutting edge elements.

On the top floor is the reception hall, created in a glass capsule, which gives light and visual access to the entire apartment. Then is the lounge area where we have a 3-seater sofa, a table and a cabinet support for TV 42 ', DVD and Nintendo Wii console. This sofa is also a comfortable sofa bed for 2 people. Across the room, we go to another room separated by glass that leads to the dining room. The dining room has a white table and 6 design chairs. Also, this area is widely used for working as an office, since it is situated on a higher altitude so you can observe the entire apartment.

Also on the top floor there is a master suite bedroom with double bed. It has a shower and a bathtub. All integrated in the same room, they create a piece of exquisite design.

The entire top floor has a spectacular panoramic view, as the rooms are divided by large crystals anchored from floor to ceiling. You can make this stay private by using the blinds.

From the top floor we go down some comfortable design steel stairs, that lead us to another space - an office room opened to the kitchen. The kitchen, even though small, is fully equipped with all appliances and is very functional. This room gives us access to a spectacular bathroom which has kept original architectural elements of the Roman era: a fabulous Romanesque arch which is a marvel of history in this apartment. This magnificent arch is integrated in the bathroom. On the other side of the room, you have a room with two single beds and a very large dresser/ wardrobe, with plenty of space for several suitcases and all clothing.

The house has many wardrobes and other items.

Ideal for one or more couples, for a young family, or a group of up to 6 friends.

TECHNOLOGY

The apartment is equipped with the latest technology to make your stay more rewarding and intense: high-speed ADSL, Wi-Fi, Apple TV and an Apple Wireless Keyboard to enjoy the best contents and movies without leaving the apartment, or hear your music and watch your pictures on the TV directly from your iPhone or iPad.

GOING OUT

The apartment is located in the center of Barcelona. In the famous and glamorous Born district, in the Gothic Quarter, where today there are currently workshops and art exhibitions, fashion designers establishments, specialty shops, graphic design studios and great terraces and restaurants offering a variety of dining options.

The apartment is on the route of modernism, so it gives the area an aura of romanticism. Right next door is the Palau de la Música, a gem of modernist architecture, designed by Domenech and Muntaner, a follower of Antonio Gaudí, the famous architect of the Sagrada Familia. Also, next door is the Mercat de Santa Caterina, a meeting place for the locals to shop for Spanish delicatessen like the great Iberian ham, or enjoying the terraces while admiring the modernist architecture.

A few meters away is the majestic Cathedral of Barcelona, hiding in the surrounding streets, - the medieval part of the city filled with palaces and ancient streets, with quaint antique shops, small bookstores, romantic fine restaurants, and bars, where from the terraces you can hear the ringing of the bells. It's like traveling to another century.

After a few minutes walk we find the busiest shopping street of Barcelona, Portal de l'Angel, where large fashion brands compete with the selected long-lasting boutiques popping between the beautiful facades of the nineteenth century. If you follow the street to the Plaza Catalunya, you see the beginning of Paseo de Gracia and Las Ramblas, the latter being a lively promenade which houses the wonderful Boqueria market, kiosks with flowers, curiosities and living statues throughout your journey to the port, where the big shopping center "Maremagnum" with cinemas, restaurants, cafes, clothing stores, footwear stores, toys, perfume and other products is. Behind it are the Aquarium of Barcelona and the "IMAX."

But if what you like is the beach, walking from the apartment and passing near the Estacion de Francia, the "Zoo" of Barcelona and the charming Ciudadela Park, you come to the Barceloneta beach, a beautiful urban beach where you can sunbathe or swim in the warm waters of the Mediterranean during the day or enjoy the best fashionable bars and clubs at night. Just in few meters you will come to the Olympic Port, where you meet people of all nationalities.

Also, if you like football and want to see FC Barcelona in their natural habitat, the Nou Camp, if you want to watch live the best players in the world, Messi, Piqué, Valdés, Xavi, Iniesta, Villa, Puyol and Fabregas , the legendary "dream team" that Pep Guardiola created you can access within minutes by subway from the apartment.

The apartment is really well connected with all types of public transport such as subways, buses, tourist bus and has a public car park just next door.

Not far away by car is the Ronda Litoral, the highway going from one end of Barcelona to another.

The Costa Brava/Catalonia/Barcelona region

Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia and the second largest city in Spain, after Madrid, with a population of 1,621,537 within its administrative limits on a land area of 101.4 km2 (39 sq mi). The urban area of Barcelona extends beyond the administrative city limits with a population of between 4,200,000 and 4,500,000 within an area of 803 km2 (310 sq mi), being the sixth-most populous urban area in the European Union after Paris, London, the Ruhr, Madrid and Milan. About five million people live in the Barcelona metropolitan area. It is also the largest metropolis on the Mediterranean Sea. It is located on the Mediterranean coast between the mouths of the rivers Llobregat and Besòs and is bounded to the west by the Serra de Collserola ridge (512 m/1,680 ft).

Founded as a Roman city, Barcelona became the capital of the County of Barcelona. After merging with the Kingdom of Aragon, Barcelona became one of the most important cities of the Crown of Aragon. Besieged several times during its history, Barcelona has a rich cultural heritage and is today an important cultural centre and a major tourist destination. Particularly renowned are the architectural works of Antoni Gaudí and Lluís Domènech i Montaner, which have been designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The headquarters of the Union for the Mediterranean is located in Barcelona. The city is known for hosting the 1992 Summer Olympics as well as world-class conferences and expositions and also many international sport tournaments.

Barcelona is today one of the world's leading tourist, economic, trade fair/exhibitions and cultural-sports centres, and its influence in commerce, education, entertainment, media, fashion, science, and the arts all contribute to its status as one of the world's major global cities. Indeed, it is a major cultural and economic centre in southwestern Europe (Iberian Peninsula), 26th in the world (after Moscow, before Dubai) and a growing financial centre (Diagonal Mar and Gran Via). It is the fourth economically powerful city by GDP in the European Union and 35th in the world with an output amounting to €177 billion. As of 2009 the city was ranked Europe's third and one of the world's most successful as a city brand. At the same time, the city was ranked Europe's fourth best city for business and fastest improving European city, with growth improved by 17% per year. Barcelona is the transport hub with one of Europe's principal ports, Barcelona international airport, which handles above 34 million passengers per year, extensive motorway network and also is a hub of high-speed rail, particularly that which is intended to link Spain with France and the rest of Europe as the second longest in the world.

Barcelona

"We stayed in this perfectly located apartment in a nice part of Barcelona."

We stayed in this perfectly located apartment in a nice part of Barcelona. The apartment is convenient for families with two bathrooms/shower rooms, a cosy kitchen and ample sleeping space. It benefits from the shade, especially convenient for the hot August month which we visited in. We appreciated the walking distances to the beach, the major Metro stations and the shopping areas. You don't need a car, as public transport are close by. For us as a family, the apartment was a nice home away from home, with WiFi; Nintendo; DVD's; Digital TV; Apple TV - all the entertainment to keep families busy if you are not at the beach or discovering this beautiful city.

We would definitely stay here again and use HouseTrip for their ease of use.
