VILLA ANEXA
About the home
Without doubt the location!
The villa is set in the charming costal Marina town of El Masnou, a mere 15-20 minute train ride to the centre of Barcelona (Plaza Catalunya- trains run every 5 minutes)
The villa is just a 5 minute walk to the beach, Marina and train station.
The Marina of "El Masnou" has numerous restaurants and bars ranging from snack bars, Chinese to Gourmet, after a pleasant meal you can then visit the many clubs and bars that open to the early hours. Then a pleasant stroll back to the villa for a peacefuL nights sleep (villa is in a residencial area, very quiet)
Relax on the beach after a day of sightseeing in Barcelona in the many "chiringuitos" (Spanish beach bars) where, during the summer months you can taste local seafood and tapas for a very reasonable price.
Just up the road (5 minute bus ride), you will find the charming wine village of Alella, famous for its Marfil wines.
Barcelona / El Masnou area
The town of El Masnou is known locally for its Marine and beach nearby Alella, a scenic wine-producing village with its own "denomination" and many fine buildings. Allella is right on the coast, just up from El Masnou, about 20 kms north of Barcelona.
Alella and Masnou would be listed on any decent map of the area. Masnou has commuter trains in to the center of Barcelona every 15 min, a fun train ride which runs along the coast, with views of the beaches for much of the 20 minutes the trip lasts. You can also drive into Barcelona in about 20 minutes from the coastal highway, the C-32 from Masnou.
Masnou is also important for the quality of its beaches, the good terraced restaurants on its pleasure port, the old world charm of the town center, and the good supermarkets just outside of town.

QUITE AREA WHERE YOU CAN PARK
The Costa Brava/Catalonia/Barcelona region
He Costa Brava is rightfully famous for its breathtakingly beautiful coastline, where wide beaches of golden sand and crystal clear waters alternate with rocky promentories and little coves backed by sheer cliffs topped with pine and oak forests. The interior of the Costa Brava is every bit as stunning as the coast (and far less affected by tourism), with pristine medieval villages set in lush, typically Mediterranean landscapes.
A short drive to the east and you are in the wooded hills of the pre-Pyrenees, with trout-filled streams feeding environmentally protected lakes - like the one in Banyoles - offering a welcome alternative to the coastal beaches.

Ruth Benzel's Villa Anexa was charming and the coastal town of El Masnou definitely a good choice to rest up after a long flight before proceeding to Barcelona. Ruth and her husband were excellent hostess & host....Ruth came to our rescue several times as we speak no Spanish..recommending excellent & affordable restaurants, a coastal boat ride, and even provided transportation to a nearby winery for a wine tasting... her husband combined a trip to the Barcelona Airport, dropping us off at our next flat in Barcelona. We definitely did not receive the same personal attention & assistance from our BCN flat owners,...which included Ruth helping us file a police report when upon our arrival at the BCN Airport, we experienced pick pockets on the crowded airport train to Sants train station to catch the train to El Masnou...it was a very professional hit, a young couple, appearing very friendly and showing us a map to our destination, even though I told her several times we had stopped at the Information Counter at the Airport and knew how to get to El Masnou...they rapidly exited on the second stop from the airport...Bellvitge...when I realized what happened. We felt the most vulnerable on this trip to Barcelona...as apparently Eastern Europeans that immigrated to Barcelona when the economy was booming are now jobless and have become skilled in singling out tourists as targets... as tourists are in the country for a short time...and they will not be prosecuted.. Also surprised at the lack of "understanding" English in Barcelona...very limited except for the bus, train & taxi drivers and shop owners & employees near tourist sites. |
