Navas is one of seven districts that make up the district of Sant Andreu de Barcelona. It owes its name to the street Navas de Tolosa, it is one of the main roads of the district, where the eponymous subway station. It has an area of 0.42 km ² and a population of 21,810 inhabitants (2010) .1 2
The neighborhood is bounded by Navas Navas de Tolosa Street , San Antonio Maria Claret, Passeig Maragall, Olesa , Felip II , Clot and Mallorca. In the center Ferran Reyes Plaza is located. Meridiana Avenue crosses the district diagonally it in two halves.
Historically , the territory now occupied by the district Navas was divided among neighboring districts of El Clot and La Sagrera. Like these two, until the nineteenth century what is now the neighborhood of Navas was a mainly agricultural land , which belonged to the municipality of Sant Martí de Provensals , annexed by Barcelona in 1897. Cultures advantage over the ditch Rec Comtal , which currently runs under the street Bofarull . Navas was virtually deserted area until the twentieth century , and the few buildings that stood in those fields were farmhouses, as Can Salles , totaling 17 hectares, in whose place today are the houses of the Governor -Can Forga , by the brook La Guineu - where today runs approximately street Navas de Tolosa , and the Tower of Fang, the only one that still stands today.
During the first decades of the twentieth century settled in the area some bungalows occupied by workers and small workshops to heavy industrialization slipstream of living the neighboring suburbs of El Clot and La Sagrera. But the real development of this territory did not begin until the year 1950.3 coinciding with the burial of the railroad tracks that ran through what is now the Avenida Meridiana. In 1941 Maria Ramón García- Alesson Morenés and Count of Assault , sold the estate to the National Can Sellés Trade Union Office , and there was built one of the first neighborhoods of the district, the urbanization Meridiana, a project built garden city Association for Home and Work which was opened in 1944 by Governor Antonio Correa Veglison , hence its popular name. That same year, 1944 , the barracks of the Guardia Civil , between Calle Navas de Tolosa and Industry , in the April 2, 1987 was the scene of a car bomb attack by ETA , which caused one death and two built heridos.4 in 1953 Navas metro station , which connected the area with the city center , and in 1954 the Plaza Ferran Reyes , turned into the nerve center of the district is urbanized opened .
Claims for recognition of Navas as a neighborhood with personality began in 1978 with the creation of the Association of Residents in Navas. This aspiration became reality officially December 22, 2006 , with the new map of districts approved by the City Council .
Navàs is a town and municipality in the province of Barcelona and autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain. The municipality covers an area of 80.6 square kilometres (31.1 sq mi) and as of 2011 had a population of 6171 people.
