About the home

Within just under 4 acres of park, the barn of this beautiful homestead, a magnificent 230m2 corn exchange, has been restored in the most purely of traditional ways, with a total respect for the heritage of the building: old materials have been restored, coated with lime etc. But there are also modern influences which makes it unique.

This magnificent dwelling was finished decorated just a few weeks ago, during its restoration, and the doors just have opened. The very large space means that everyone can do their own things while still remaining together as a group: small gatherings with friends or large debates, everything has its place!

There is a large living-room (80m2) with a fireplace, a bar, a snooker table (to come) and a home cinema television set, and a large kitchen where everyone can help out thus creating your own atmosphere. Warm, welcoming, and very unusual; this is a great place for those who are looking for something different.

Facilities

Further details indoors:
Le chant du Puit: room (16m2) has a large double bed with 18th century ironwork bed-head and 19th century furniture. Easy access for someone with reduced mobility. It enjoys a westerly view over the fields of sunflowers, wheat and corn.

"L'étable" room (14m2) has a small double bed with an antique manger acting as a bed-head and antique furniture. Easy access for someone with reduced mobility. It has a view over the garden and the fields.

"Loft" room (18m2) has a double bed with 19th century style furniture. It is on the first floor and has a view over the 15th century homestead and the rows of olive trees. Large glass doors open into the living-room.

"La cabane" dormitory room (41m2) which is dedicated to the little ones! Older people can be accommodated here but quickly the tribe will take over the place which is completely dedicated to them! It contains 4 single beds and 3 cots, as well as a play area with TV, DVD player and children's, games.

Bathrooms and showers:
For complete relaxation there is a shower room on the ground floor with lime plaster walls, shower with water jets and pebbled flooring. There is also a bathroom on the first floor with old converted barbers fittings, balneotherapy bath with bubbles and a radio, a very restful space. There is a shower room in the dormitory which has a large cubicle with water jets, easy for showering small children. Child size sinks and toilets!

There is also gym equipment, including bikes, table tennis, badminton. Internet access with WiFi. Lots of facilities to help you relax are available for you on request: a shuttle to collect you from the train station or the airport; everything you need for breakfast can be placed in the fridge; you can have fresh bread and croissants in the morning; house-keeping for longer visits, baby facilities; hot air balloon rides, quad biking and horse riding.

A 70m magnificent olive trees outward, keep you at the swimming pool.

This old 15th century homestead is a great base from which to go on great outings. Alternate fantastic days out with peace and quiet, charming days in an outstanding place where you can simply rest. A siesta in the shade of an olive tree, a few lengths in the pool (12m) or a pretty stroll discovering the secrets of Charente, as beautiful as it is precious, which awards only the most patient suitors.

For those who step out the front door there are numerous marvels to explore: chateaux (more than 1000 in Charente), homesteads, mills and walks through pastures and valleys. Several paths lead from the house and we have made route maps which follow various themes: cultural, pastoral, gourmet, leisure and shopping.

In the property, there is a large reception room which can hold between 30 and 200 people. This is ideal for reunions, birthdays, baptisms, marriages etc.

Celebrate without the hassle! The house has a very good environmental certificate from the tourist board as well as a pool with disabled access (heated April- October). There is also gym equipment, including bikes, table tennis, badminton and boules. Internet access with WiFi.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente region

Do you want to discover a beautiful area in France? Wonderful and secret for those who want to discover something else and be a pioneer!

1000 castles, more than in Périgord, its charming neighbour. There are active mills, old 12th century villages, the only place in France where you can visit so many Roman Style Churches. You can sample Cognac with its great brand names, and also visit some of the smaller producers.

You can see the archaeological sites in Saintes, or go to the beautiful and historic town of Angoulême, city of the comics. A very changing landscape: small valleys, hills, grape vines, corn, sunflowers fields, woods, small rivers. Sometimes it seems that you are in Provence, sometimes in Landes.

Drive one hour or less, you will be at the ocean, or in Bordeaux or St Emilion !

The Barbezieux-Saint-Hilaire / Berneuil area

Peaceful area in the South of Charente. 4 castles to see in less than 10 kilometres. Berneuil is a medieval village with a wonderful 12th century church with fresco. A lot of medieval villages around.

What to do near us :
January: Have a pleasant stay and visit the most famous Comic Show in France, another way to discover Angoulême

February: Visit Roman churches, Cognac producers and have a very peaceful and relaxing time at the chimney or in your balneotherapy bath.

March: go for a walk or ride in the fabulous countryside before having a gastronomic meal in one of the barns around. Do you want to have your first flight in a hot air balloon? You can take off in our property.

April: the sun arrives and often, it is as warm as in summer. Prepare your body for the summer!
Go for a walk, jump in our heated swimming pool, exercise with our fitness equipment, have a balneotherapy bath... just relax, see, move, breath : springtime is there ! If you want we prepare a special programme with a guide!

May: "Fait ce qu'il te plaît!", do whatever you want and go to the fantastic worldwide music show in Angoulême called "Musiques Métisses". Or Go to Aubeterre, "Plus beau Village de France", for the Art exhibition.

June: Your children will adore that ! "Les Gaminades": a village turns itself into a big attraction park. Theatre, games, music for your children.

July: medieval parties and shows in villages and castles, the fantastic "Francofolies" in La Rochelle, with the most popular French singers, le "Puy du Fou" in Vendée. You are less than one hour far from these major shows our area.

August : Balloon World cup 15 km far from our house. A wonderful event for the eyes. And if you want, you can have your first flight!

September : Race with old cars coming from all over Europe. "Circuit des Remparts" in Angoulême.

October: "Festival du Film Policier-Cognac", worldwide known, Cognac Festival discovers the best suspense movies of the world.

November :It is the time to distil the Cognac. Visit the producer at this time during a long weekend.

December : Cognac is still distilling and "Les gastronomades" will make you discover all the best products for Christmas and the New Year.
