The Ionian Islands region
The island of Corfu is located just off the West coast of Greece. Corfu enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate along with excellent beaches making it a popular destination for holiday makers. Corfu is very green compared to other Greek islands: hot and dry summers along with winter rain creates lush vegetation which is dominated by over 2 million olive trees. These olive trees on Corfu are the main cultivation, although Corfu's tourism now provides the most income.

The Greek isles mean beaches. Corfu is no exception and has many varied beaches for you to choose from and enjoy. Sandy, Rocky coves, quiet and hidden. If beaches are an important part of your holiday, then use our Corfu beach guide which describes most of the beaches on Corfu
Corfu is unique in providing so many diverse holiday locations. Its beaches are no exception, with long sweeping sandy bays, little rocky coves, or deserted bays. Corfu can easily offer you all of these beaches.
Hire a car, take a bus or use a local taxi, but renting a motor boat can be the experience of your Corfu holiday - and no license is required
If lying on sun drenched beaches, or lazing by the pool, is not your scene, do not worry. Corfu has much more on offer. Corfu island boasts Mount Pantokrator, which is over 900 meters high, offering breathtaking views across to the Island of Paxos. There is also the old town of Kerkyra - a must visit
Corfu town is Venice and Naples, a touch of France and more than a dash of England, apart of course from being Greek' - well worth a visit.
Achilion Palace is definitely a place to take your camera. This beautiful building in picturesque gardens overlooking the sea and Corfu town is one of Corfu's top attraction
Paleokastritsa It is famous for being the islands most treasured beauty spot, and becomes busy with day trippers throughout the season. Luxury yachts sail in to admire the back drop of the beautiful green hills, while coaches clog up the narrow roads leading into town, and so, so many other spots.
A mile long shingle beach is the outstanding asset that Barbati has to offer. A few Tavernas on the beach, a supermarket and the occasional gift shop. The main village of Barbati is located up on the main road - about a ten min walk. The resort of barbati runs either side of the main coastal road from Corfu town. The shops and Tavernas are positioned on the road side and smaller roads run steeply off to your right down to the beach. The beach is long and the views are stunning from here. To the right you look across to Corfu town. Spot the old town and the forts. You can see the cruise ships docked in the port, just to the right of the main town. On the left the view is of the Albanian coast line where it meets with the Greek mainland. On a clear day it is stunning.
Barbati is the ideal family resort, for those looking for some life but also some peace and quiet. The beach front tends to be quieter and more relaxing in the evenings, whereas the bars up on the main road are busier and more lively. The main road is quite a hike up from the beach. The Pantokrator hotel offers a much needed courtesy bus service up and down the hill.
