"Perfect villa in beautiful location - a real home from home"
In short, Amendoa (and Quinta da Varzea Grande as a whole) is a really fantastic place to stay. We (myself, my husband and our baby son (1)) have just returned from a brilliant 10 days here.
The booking process is so easy and Mark/Ruth (villa owners) are really quick to get back to any emails or queries. In fact they are extremely helpful before you even get to Portugal!! I had a couple of baby specific queries as it was the first time we took our son (who is 1) abroad and Ruth was happy to help - even checking out whether the local supermarket stocked our preferred brand of nappy!!
The villa is in a beautiful location set in the countryside but with easy access to all local amenities including the many gorgeous beaches located in the surrounding area. A car is essential but Mark & Ruth are able to sort out hire car bookings with no hassle whatsoever.
The villa is lovely and clean and has plenty of space and there is full air conditioning in the lounge if needed for those extra hot days. The showers in the villa area great - lovely and warm and powerful. All necessary utensils etc are provided and we stayed at the villa and cooked most nights so our son could go to bed! Even if there is something extra you need Mark/Ruth will happily provide it without a problem, as they did for us. The villa has a private seating area and sunbeds and cushions are provided which can be used by the pool or on the private terrace (which has a great view overlooking the local golf course) - we had great weather the whole time we were there so there were plenty of places at the villa to enjoy the sunshine and relax in peace.
The solar heated pool is a real star feature of the villa - a great size and kept lovely and clean (cleaned every morning by Mark). We used it every day and my son loved splashing around in the water.
There is a great BBQ area with all facilities provided which we used on a couple of occasions and a lovely seating area overlooking the gardens - a great spot to enjoy a nice cold glass of wine in the early evening sun!
On arrival you are provided with a welcome pack which is really handy and contains the basics for your first night - including milk, bread, butter, jam, water and even a bottle of wine. Ruth even made sure that we had some full fat milk for our son for the first night.
We made full use of the facilities at the villa during our holiday and also explored the majority of the local area - nearby Barao de Sao Joao has some very quaint small cafes for a coffee and Praia de Luiz is 5-10mins drive from the villa where there are plenty of restaurants and shops to browse and obviously the beach.
We found the beach at Luz a bit crowded and not the cleanest so we ventured a bit further to Salema (about a 15-20min drive from the villa) where the beach was stunning - Salema also has some great restaurants - Casa Pizza has a terrace where you can have really delicious seafood and pizzas looking out over the bay.
Lagos Zoo is well worth a visit, really well kept, the animals are well looked after and there are lots of monkeys and birds to see.
We had a really fantastic holiday and will definitely be staying here again on our return to the Algarve - highly recommended.

"Fabulous location, lovely villas"
Lovely villas - the outdoor areas are particularly good, especially the pool. Ideal for a family gathering with the large barbecue area being a great place to socialise. The individual terraces outside each bedroom mean that it is also quite private. Well maintained both inside and out.

"peaceful & relaxing with great pool"
Mark and Ruth were very welcoming and helpful. We had booked both villas with family and were impressed with the facilities and overall cleanliness of the villa. The area is very peaceful with lovely views of the surrounding area although a car is essential as the porperty is quite remote. The highlight of this property for us was the pool which is of a good size and was immaculately maintained on a daily basis. Overall a very relaxing and peaceful holiday.
