The Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region
The Languedoc-Roussillion region is in the relaxed, sun-drenched south, with excellent beaches and sleepy villages making for a laid back way of life. Also known as Le Midi, the area is celebrated for its romantic past and blend of French culture with that of its Spanish and Catalan neighbours. This mixture is apparent in the red and yellow flags of the region and in the bull-fighting which takes place in the well-preserved amphitheatre of Nîmes. This is one of the largest wine-growing areas in France, with many castles and medieval fortresses such as that of Carcasonne and charming towns like Perpignan and Montpellier. The coast has 200 kilometres of sandy beaches, and is home to some of France’s favourite resorts for sailing, big-game fishing and scuba-diving....
The Banyuls sur Mer area
Banyuls sur Mer – The last French seaside resort before you cross the border into Spain is a truly Catalane experience and has been a favourite of European visitors for decades. Here you will find fantastic wines from the region, great food, sunny climate, festivals, music, markets and a warm welcome.

Everything provided for a comfortable and relaxing stay - wonderful place to come back to after a day of sightseeing and just sit and enjoy the panoramic view from the balcony. Very good internet connection and lots of videos, books and puzzles provided. Pet friendly with immediate access to various walks. The area has lots to offer in the way of sights and scenery and is quite unspoiled. All in all would very highly recommend this excellent property.

My wife and I booked this comfortable, modern and well equipped one bedroom apartment over the internet and although photos were available we could never be completely sure what awaited us. In this case our accommodation lived up to more than all expectations especially with its panoramic view looking out over vinyards, green hills and distant villages and each day being capped off by a breathtaking sunset. This part of southern France, much to our surprise and delight, gets more than its share of sunshine in winter and surprisingly little rain between November and January. Banyuls is one of several delightful coastal towns between the Spanish border and the bigger city of Perpignan so there is much to explore both in France and just south of the border inside Spain all of which can be readily reached by car, train or bus.
Thank you Lorinda for greetings us so warmly upon our arrival and providing two weary travellers with a wonderful fresh baguette and a bottle of local wine the moment we stepped in the door. Liz and Mike Busch from Vancouver, Canada
