The Balearic Islands region
Mallorca is one of the most popular European holiday destinations with a reputation for providing stylish and sophisticated vacations for families, business people and those who are looking for sporting activities.
The beautiful beaches and great weather are what make Mallorca a favourite holiday destination for UK tourists. However, whilst Mallorca is famed for its great sun, sea and sand there are also plenty of other things for those seeking a slightly different experience. You can discover delightful antiquated villages perched on the hill tops, and beautiful examples of Gothic architecture. Similarly the scenic beauty of the Island is amazing with wonderful olive groves, valleys, mountains, beautiful bays and coves. This small island has a diversity of landscape from the dramatic Tramuntana Mountain ranges to the fertile plain at the centre of the island to small secret coves and long sandy beaches.
Mallorca is covered with almond groves, vineyards, fruit trees, flocks of sheep and goats and sleepy villages where the pace of life is much slower. The island has an ancient history going back to Roman times and has had its fair share of invasions including the Moors and the Phoenicians who have left their mark on the physical and cultural landscape of the island.
If you hire a car you can explore the mountains of Sierre tramuntana and the hidden away monasteries around the island.
On the west side of the island is the famous mountain village of Valldemossa and the village and Port of Soller which is accessible by car or you can take the old fashioned train from Palma to Soller and the catch the tram into the port.
To the north of the island you have Puerto Pollenca, Alcudia and C'an Picafort; these are all tourist areas.
In the south of the island is the capital Palma, where you can do some sightseeing and shopping.
The climate here is variable, during July and August it is very hot, June and September are quite similar and it is hot, May and October have warm days and cool nights.
The winter in Mallorca is very pleasant, however towards the end of December it starts to get cold, January can be wet but by the time spring comes the good weather is on its way.
Today, the island is peaceful and offers something for everyone.
If you are looking for a place in the middle of the mountain and with sea views, far from the bustle and the most touristy area, you have just found your oasis of peace.
Banyalbufar, a municipality situated in the south west of the Tramuntana mountain range between Estellencs, Esporles and Valldemossa, has a population of approximately 500 people and its characteristic scenery is formed by the surrounding mountains, the spectacular terracing dedicated to cultivation and the abrupt coastline that goes from the Raco de S'Algar to the Port des Canonge.
Very near to FINCA PLANICI, a public finca to explore the nature with nice walks.
The shops, good restaurants, café, pubs, bakery (the fresh mallorquin ensaimadas, cocarois, empanadas are delicious for breakfast) and the nice, respectful local people make you feel comfortable and welcome.
Banyalbufar is the best kept secret in Mallorca: a beautiful village halfway between Andratx and Soller on the famous North Shore, or Costa Nord.
The village has everything you need for you comfort: shops (food, souvenirs, ceramics, broidery, everything for the beach), bank with cash-automat, pharmacy, a little clinic, internet café.
The beach has a little natural waterfall which comes from the mountains. After swimming you can take a shower with fresh, cool water.
The mountains and sea offer wonderful walking, including a path that follows the beautiful coastline or over the mountain all the way to Soller.
There is a good Jazz Festival (Banyalbujazz) at open air (free entrance). Ask for dates and details.
Nearby Deia and Valdemossa have long been attracting discerning tourists looking for authentic and beautiful Mallorca. Banyalbufar is coastal, and much more beautiful. Its also tiny, but with enough restautants, bars, terraces and wonderful beaches to keep you fully amused and chilled.
A true heaven on earth within your reach, a place where time stops and mother nature marks the passage of time.

"Tranquil beauty and superb views"
I rented this property as a solo traveller looking for a week of peace and relaxation and found exactly that!! It is located in an absolutely stunning area with breathtaking views over the sea and mountains. The gardens are beautiful and well kept as it the pool and villa. The owners are great and help any way they can to make your stay perfect. The surrounding area is just beautiful and if you rent a car which I would advise the island is very easy to get around. Only 2 things I think would have made my stay even better, couple of uk tv channels for in the villa in the evenings (maybe not as important if you are travelling with someone) and some form of oven for cooking as a hob is provided but I did miss an oven, maybe even a small halogen oven would be great. Apart from that a perfect week away and I would definitely recommend it.

I discovered this little piece of paradise on internet and found everything I was looking for! The studio is perfect for 1 or 2 persons, with a private terrace and lots of other little terraces in the beautiful garden. My favourite spot was the terrace overlooking the sea, under the trees, with two comfortable sunbeds and always a little seabreeze. The perfect place for the siesta on hot summer days!
The little village is surrounded by mountains and is very peaceful and quiet. Exactly what I was looking for. I would personally recommend a rental car but there is a regular bus service as well.
The lovely and cool studio is fully equipped with a small kitchen to prepare simple meals and a large refrigerator..
The owner and his wife are very friendly and make you feel right at home! You share the swimming pool and garden with them but they are not always there.
I will absolutely come back to discover more about this beautiful island and will be happy to stay at "Sa Vinya" again!
