The South East England region
The Addington Palace Estate within which Sumner Cottage is located is perfectly placed for those seeking both a rural retreat and city excitement. Located only 20 minutes by train from the heart of London and the hustle and bustle of city life but a million miles away in terms of tranquility, Sumner Cottage unquestionable offers the best of both words.
If is it calm serenity you want them the plethora of country walks and National Trust properties, including Chartwell, Wakehurst Place, Sheffield Park Gardens and Polsden Lacey amongst others are all a short drive away. For a coastal day out Brighton can be reached in a little over an hour as can many of the south coast seaside resorts. Aside Gatwick, its only a 15 minute drive to Biggin Hill Airport which offers superb easy access to France and the rest of the continent as does the channel tunnel which is a little over 1 hour away.
For those seeking activities for the children then Thorpe Park and Chessington World of Adventures are within an hours drive and of course the attraction of London be it the London Eye, London Dungeons or the Natural History Museum with a quick stop off at Hamleys! the children are well and truly accommodated.
The Shard or the shopping experiences that can be found in Oxford Street, Piccadilly and Covent Gardens may be more suited for a short stay for girlfriends with London on your doorstep, and returning weary to a pamper day and beauty treatments in the Addington Palace Spa with a glass of Champagne to cap the perfect day! Sumner Cottage offers great links from both Gatwick (40 minutes) and Heathrow (1 hour) for international travel. It is also a short 30 minute drive from the M25 and offers excellent rail links to and from London from East Croydon or Bromley station. A tram stop from East Croydon takes you to the entrance of the Addington Palace Estate. It is easily accessible by car and all forms of public transport
