Home description
White Fir Valley is a luxurious four season mountain resort but without the mega bucks price tag! Perfect for skiing or boarding at nearby Bansko during winter and spring. Perfect for relaxing around the fabulous pool and spa complex, enjoying the tranquil garden and stunning mountain scenery whilst soaking up the heat (35 degrees!) during summer. And perfect for actively exploring the mountain region on bike or foot during spring or autumn.
The apartments and complex provide everything you need to enjoy your holiday and indulge yourself. They're also ideally placed for excursions to numerous local places of interest, from traditional sights such as the Rila Monastry, to sampling the multitude of natural hot springs including the fantastic hot spring heated public pool complex at Banya. Bar, food, and ice cream on tap! Or take in a different form of sampling and vist the expanding vineyards! Oh and because it is in Bulgaria everybody is friendly and the prices are low - unlike France on both counts!

The Pirin/Rhodope Mountains region
The Pirin Mountains are a mountain range in south western Bulgaria, with Vihren (2,914 m high) the highest peak, situated at 41°45′50″N 23°25′30″E. The range extends about 40 km northwest-southeast, and about 25 km wide. Most of the range is protected in a national park, the Pirin National Park. The mountain is named after Perun the highest god of the Slavic pantheon and the god of thunder and lightning. It is home to numerous lakes and a huge variety of flora and fauna.
We have visited in the summer and the winter and the place is surprisingly versatile. In the summer it's hot, much hotter than you would expect. Temperatures when we were there in August reached low 30's and averaged about 29. Because the resort is in the mountains it's not an oppressive heat and there is usually a nice cooling breeze.
Renting a car in the summer and exploring the mountains (even with small children like our 3 year old twins) was beautiful. It's a great (half price) top quality alternative to the typical French ski holiday with much better quality accommodation and very friendly people. In the summer it's a genuine alternative to sitting on a packed beach along the European coastline and much lower cost. Everyone who visits in the summer is pleasantly surprised and many return.
Bansko / White Fir Mountain Valley area
Bansko is generally regarded as Bulgaria's premier ski resort, having the best and most modern ski centre of all Bulgarian ski resorts. During the recent years millions of Euros have been invested investment in a brand new skiing area. Bansko has the best snow record and the longest ski season (15 Dec - 15 May) of all Bulgarian ski resorts and many of the more well known resorts elsewhere in Europe. There really is a lot of snow in these mountains and when resorts in Austria and France are struggling you will often find good well tended snow in Bansko. One of the reasons that last year Bansko was for the first time featured in the World Cup programme.
On the plus side the resort is super modern and has fantastic facilities and is not very busy (except Christmas and New Year) and it costs much less than elsewhere in Europe. Typically a family of 4 skiing in Bansko will spend half that of a resort in France and get much better quality of accommodation and holiday experience. The downside is the town itself has been developed too quickly and is built on quite a steep hill. This is relevant because many sites boast being close to the Gondola but omit the fact that the Gondola is only reached via a steep hill climb! In parts it resembles a building site and suffers from power cuts as the infrastructure fails to keep up with development. All new development appears to have ceased as the local Mayor tries to get things under control.
This is one of the reasons we decided to buy our property outside the town and opted for a self contained apartment in a luxury development 8km outside town. A shuttle bus delivers guests to and from the town and to the Gondola doors at their convenience, and the resort doesn't suffer from the over development infrastructure issues currently plaguing Bansko town centre.

Further details indoors: This is an ultra modern apartment with all mod cons and you wont be disappointed. There is plenty of space for all you ski clobber and general kit in the large hall area. it worked wonderfully well for our family when we stayed at Christmas. All the stuff that you normally trip over and clutters the place up has a home in the big hall with hanging space and shoe area. We were able to section off the children at night in one of the bedrooms whilst the adults continued to party. The rooms are well sound-proofed so the TV and laughter doesn't wake the kids.
Further details outdoors: Luxury pools, lovely views, parking, shuttle bus to town. If you're staying in the summer rent a car - its just not worth it relying on cabs and stuff, and the rental cars are really cheap. There's so much to see and do you would be mad not to, and it's even cheaper out of the big towns!

Guestbook for Orchid House
"That was the best holiday we've been on. It far exceeded our expectations. The weather was fantastic, the people were so friendly, and we can't get over the value for money! The food was delicious and so cheap! We will definitely be back, and can't wait til we go again!" - Shelley & John, London, August 2008
"The apartment was fantastic, providing everything we needed, making breakfasts and the occasional dinner was so easy and convenient. The pool and kids play area were brilliant. Eating out was so easy, children are welcome everywhere - it made it a pleasure to go out and as it was so cheap we could go as often as we wanted. Loved it!" - Sarah, Bournemouth, January 2009
"We went to Bulgaria for a fortnight, staying a couple of nights in Sofia before heading to the apartment for a week, before moving on to Plodiv. The apartment was lovely, and was an ideal base to allow us to explore the beautiful surrounding area. We explored off the beaten track and found it hard to believe that it's even cheaper and the people more friendly than in the towns - when lost and asking for directions a helpful local jumped in his car and showed us the route to our destination! The weather was fantastic and Bulgaria makes for a much better summer destination than we expected. We will be back!" - Colin & Margo, Durham, July 2009
