The Pirin/Rhodope Mountains region
Besides the skiing, there are plenty of other activities, excursions and nightlife to keep you entertained during your stay. Outside the ski season, Bansko plays host to a number of festivals, including the Bansko Jazz festival, when hundreds of musicians gather from all over the world to perform.
Bansko is also becoming an increasingly popular destination for mountain biking and white water rafting, as well as already being one of the top hiking destinations in Europe, with it's unspoilt natural beauty, breathtaking mountain scenery, lakes and alpine forests. In summer 2007, Bansko opened its first 18 hole golf course, designed by pro golfer Ian Woosnam which promises to be one of the finest courses in the country.
Staying in Bansko will not cost the earth either. In fact, Bansko is one of the least expensive ski destinations in the world. A typical three course meal with wine can cost as little as £6. Whilst a pint sized bottle of beer costs around 50 pence and a good bottle of wine no more than £3
Bansko / Dobrinishte area
If you are not familiar with the resort, Bansko is considered to be the best developed in Eastern Europe. An attractive medieval town located at the foot of the 2915m Mount Vihren, part of the scenic Pirin National Park which is a recognised UNESCO World Heritage Site. Steeped in history and culture, the cobbled streets of Bansko are home to traditional stone built houses and family run restaurants or 'mexhanas' where the local people are always warm and welcoming.
The Bansko resort has a long ski season which runs from December to Mid April and after a multi million euro investment now has one of the most advanced ski centres in Europe. A state of the art lift system provides access to 70km of piste as well as unlimited 'off-piste' runs. 80% of the slopes are covered with snow cannons and the last 7km are floodlit for nighttime skiing. Bansko also boasts Bulgaria's first snow park complete with ramps and half pipe which secures it's reputation as the country's finest ski resort.
How to get there
