Home description
The apartment is situated in the Kandahar block only 150m from the main gondola lift in Bansko. Kandahar offers its guests numerous facilities including Harry's cafe/bar, on-site creche with English-speaking staff, ski/snowboard shop, equipment hire and lessons, ski, board and boot room, on site doctor and manned reception with advice on all things Bansko including tips on the best places to eat and drink plus other activities such as spas and golf.
Bansko is a great value ski resort (particularly now with the strength of the euro as the local currency is lev) offering a unique experience for skiers and boarders wanting something different - good wholesome food, great value apres ski, a different mix of nationalities and great facilities. The terrain is suitable for all levels; its a great place to learn with plenty of nursery slopes and several more challenging slopes for more advanced people. There is also the chance for mountain guides to explore back country. Bansko is also a great summer resort with many activities such as hiking, climbing, mountain biking, spas, golf, horse riding and tours around local medieval towns.

The Pirin/Rhodope Mountains region
Bulgaria entered the EU in 2007 along with Romania and Poland and since then has received EU support to develop its infrastructure and economy.
The currency is currently the Lev and there are roughly 2.5 to the £. Although Bulgaria is still very much a cash economy, resorts such as Bansko have many cash machines and accept credit cards.
The locals speak Bulgarian, which is similar to Russian and uses the Cyrillic alphabet.
Bansko / Gramadeto area
Situated in South-Western Bulgaria at the foothills of the Pirin mountain, Bansko is a UNESCO world heritage site and year-round destination for tourists who ski/snowboard during the winter and hike, mountain bike or relax with spa treatments in the summer. Bansko is just 60km from the Greek border and sits at 950m above sea level on a plain encircled by mountains.
The resort has received massive investment over recent years to develop into one of Eastern Europe's top ski resorts. It has a state of the art lift system, and many great restaurants and bars. Although there are plans to expand the mountain facilities further to open up more of the mountain, new developments in the town have now been halted.
The town of Bansko dates back to the 15th century and is split into:
- The old town with old squares, traditional tavernas or "mexanas" and locals going about their business in traditional dresss
- The new town where the resort has grown, consisting of luxurious developments, hotels, modern bars and restaurants. This is also where the gondola is situated
There are plenty of things to do in and around Bansko. The Katerino spa is a full spa resort only 5km away where you can get every treatment imaginable or simply lounge around all day. A full golf course has recently been developed in the valley for those that like a round or two.
Day trips include tours of the local medieval towns including Bulgaria's oldest monastery and a Bear Park which houses brown bears who were saved from gypsies who used to keep them as dancing bears. You can get very close to them!

Guestbook for Apt B4, Kandahar
We had a nice holiday, thank you. The apartment was very warm, comfortable and had everything we needed. We had a great time on the mountain and the people we met were very friendly. Skiing back down into Bansko was really fun. The weather was fantastic, brilliant sunshine every day.

Our time in Bansko was fantastic! We found the conditions for boarding excellent and had a brilliant week, by the end of which we were all pretty decent. I'd just like to say thanks for providing the accommodation for a really fantastic and memorable trip.
