The Pirin/Rhodope Mountains region
This area of Bulgaria has cold winters with good snowfall from December to early April (perfect for skiing!) and very warm, sunny summers - both of which make it an ideal destination at any time of year! It is an area of immense natural beauty and wildlife and a great place for hunting and fishing. There is also a large golf course nearby.
This area is a good location for people wishing to travel further with Greece, Macedonia and Serbia all within a manageable driving distance.
Bansko / Mountain Dream Complex area
Bansko is a small town but contains all that is needed for a relaxing and cultural stay. It boasts a number of bars and restaurants catering to both traditional Bulgarian and international tastes. A number of shops sell traditional gifts, while specialist shops are located near to the to the gondola for purchase/rental of ski and snowboard equipment.
There is also an open ice skating rink in the town. The town has a local market held in the pedestrianised area close to the Orthodox Church. The Mountain Dreams complex, meanwhile, has its own facilities, including a luxury heated swimming pool, spa, bar and restaurant
How to get there
Easyjet budget flights from Manchester and uk airports, to Sofia. Transfer mini buses available from/to sofia and airport with very reasonable prices particularly if shared . Approximate transfer time 2.5 hours . New improved road link direct to Sofia from Bansko. Cheap bus service from Bansko bus station to Sofia and other local towns.
Car hire available from Sofia and locally Taxi service available, for local use to amenities at a reasonable price of usually no more than 20 euro. Mountain dream is a short walk (10 minutes) to cable car and the town centre. The Mountain dream complex has its own minibus service for local use and transfers to Sofia, other towns, and local amenities .
