Knights Lodge is in a prime location only 400m from the main gondola station and only 200m from the old town (please see our map in the photo gallery). It is in a quiet residential area but right between the gondola and the old town (restaurants, bars etc).
Please note: Cheaper properties may be some distance away from the gondola and the old town and/or exaggerate distances. Ours is genuinely as stated. There is no need to have to wait for or rely on shuttle buses - it is only a short walk to and from all the facilities.
This is a new luxury one bedroom apartment with brand new furniture. The apartment is on the third floor (see photo below) and there is a lift. It has a double balcony and lovely views out over the mountains.
The Knights Lodge complex has 55 apartments with a 24 hr reception/security, sauna, jacuzzi and fitness room on site. It has its own bar and restaurant on the ground floor - the Sir Galahad which is very popular locally for its live music and excellent pizza. Great if you can't walk too far after a hard day on the slopes!

The Pirin/Rhodope Mountains region
Bansko is the best ski and snowboard resort in Eastern Europe - according to the Financial Times who said It combines modern skiing facilities with the charm of a 10th century town and has preserved its history well. Bulgaria is becoming increasingly popular among Britons keen to go skiing but not wanting to pay Zermatt prices. (Jul 06)
Over 130 million euros has been spent since 2003 on new mountain facilities including the new Austrian made gondola lift which takes skiers up to the mid mountain area of 1725m. A network of smaller lifts takes you to the highest point of 2560m giving a huge vertical drop of 1570m; the run back to the valley is 17km long. The final 7km is floodlit and covered by snow cannon.
Bansko has an electronic hands free lift pass system and Bulgarias first terrain park with half-pipe for snowboarders.
Bansko has a long winter season which usually runs from late December to late April. Skiers of all abilities are well catered for as Bansko has over 70 kilometres of marked ski runs which are easily accessed by the gondola lift - situated just an 8 minute walk from Knights Lodge. The facilities in Bansko will impress any skier who appreciates modern lifts, the latest in ski and snowboard equipment as well as low prices, especially when compared to the Alps.
During the summer Bansko is a fantastic base for exploring the beautiful Pirin mountains on foot, bike and horseback, with white water rafting, canoeing, paragliding and mountain biking available. The town has more than 100 architectural and historical monuments of culture. Also in summer the town hosts a week long jazz festival, a Bulgarian folk festival and other cultural events.There are numerous warm mineral water springs with proven healing properties in nearby villages. The climate is Mediterranean (summer temps 25 degs+) with the Greek border only half an hour away.
A new Ian Woosnam designed golf course is currently under construction just outside Bansko (4kms) and will offer quality facilities at a fraction of prices elsewhere in Europe (due for completion Summer 2008).
Bansko / Gramadeto area
Bansko is a unique combination of a modern ski resort and an old town with cobbled streets and pretty old buildings. Apres ski is centred around local 'Mehanas' - friendly taverna style restaurants serving traditional Bulgarian cuisine and drinks, often with roaring log fires and live entertainment.
Knights Lodge is located in the up-market Gramadeto district, just a 5 minute walk from the old town where there are around 100 mehanas.
For those who wish to party there are plenty of options such as the Happy End Disco Bar and the Nightclub Amnesia.
All the 5 star hotels in the town are located in the Gramadeto district their fabulous spa and pool facilities are available to non residents at very reasonable rates.
Eating out is very cheap as well with an evening meal for two with wine costing only £15-£20.
How to get there
Fly from UK to Sofia, takes 2hrs 50 mins - Bansko is 2hrs 30mins from the airport (150kms).
Cheap flights available from Wizzair.com who fly from Luton to Sofia and NEW EasyJet service from Gatwick.
Also try Bulgaria Air (air.bg) from Gatwick, BA or Hemus Air from Heathrow/Manchester - slightly more expensive but better flight times.
Car Hire/Taxi available from Sofia airport - make sure you only use genuine taxis. Very cheap bus service available from Sofia to Bansko (3hrs).
Best option is to pre-book transfer by car/minibus which can be arranged at very reasonable rates, please ask.
You will be met at the airport and taken direct to the apartment.

Further details indoors: It sleeps four/five - two in a double bed in the main bedroom, two in a large sofa-bed and one in a single sofa- bed in the living room.
The apartment is furnished to a high standard. It has an entrance hall, bathroom with shower, main bedroom, a fully equipped kitchen with hotplates, fridge and microwave, a large lounge area and a double balcony with lovely views out over the mountains.
The apartment has Cable TV, a DVD Player with 20 various DVD's available and a CD Player. Satellite TV is widely available in bars and restaurants around the resort including the Sir Galahad. Internet access is also available at Knights Lodge.
Further details outdoors: The apartment has it's own ski and equipment locker in the basement. Underground parking available.
There is a sauna, jacuzzi and fitness room within the complex. Massages and treatments are available at very reasonable rates.
