The apartment offers the following: stylish accommodation in downtown Bansko, all mod cons including: flat screen t.v. with lots of family D.V.D.'s in English. Intercom, Oven, Microwave, Iron, Hairdryer, Coffee Maker, Toaster, Cot, Lovely French style furniture and hardwood floors. With one double and one twin bedroom, the apartment is ideal for families, with plenty in the surrounding area to see and do during your stay. Has a cot and baby facilities!

The complex is quiet and peaceful but only a short walk from the busy bars and cafe's for delicious local food or apres ski. The apartment is located on the ground floor so its suitable for smaller children and elderly people. It is quiet and safe for children to leave the apartment and run down to the indoor supervised pool (with shallow end). The complex also boasts a massage room, sauna, steam room, gym, games room including ping pong and pool. There is landscaped communal gardens with outdoor bbq should you go in the summer time.

In the adjacent Hotel Bojour there is a bar and restaurant and helpful receptionists to answer any of your travel questions.

There is secure ski storage as part of the package. Bojourland is near the Old Town for going out in the evening. It is not as close as other apartments to the Gondola but there is a regular free shuttle bus service from the hotel to the Gondola and trust me, it is easier to get there that way than to walk with your skis in the snow! (every fifteen mins. ski season). We have left a list of our favourite restaurants on the coffee table for you!

The Pirin/Rhodope Mountains region

The twon of Bansko is surrounded by mountains and is adjacent to to Pirin National Park.

Bansko ha the advantage of having two defined seasons: Summer and Winter. The summer is short while the winter is long but not too cold. January is pretty cold, about -1.9C. The snow falls often so you can be sure of good cover even on the lower slopes.

The season kicks off along the Pirin slopes mid December and by the end of March the snows have receded sufficiently to make skiing difficult. Getting to Bansko is handy enough, you can take a car from the airport which will bring you there in about 2 hours for £50 - £75 all in. The roads are good so it is a safe journey.

Bansko is an up and coming ski resort and the prices reflect this. The gondolas are second to none and the snow cannons are on all the time. The skiing is really excellent and when the usual more expensive haunts have no snow you can be pretty sure of good cover in Bansko. s

There are brilliant ski schools and the ski runs are maintained in excellent condition. There is brilliant restaurants half way up and near the top. It caters for beginners, families and experts. The blue and black runs are quite challenging but the nursery slopes are busy and chatty with lots going on. Lots of kids and families enjoy themselves here without having to check the expense account every two minutes. It helps when kids always want hot chocolates and cokes and chips and they can go ahead without breaking the bank.

This resort is applying to host the 2014 Winter Olympics which will give you an idea of the standard. There are 14 pistes which extend to 65 km. There is a 17 km run. There is off piste and cross country skiing for the adventurous. The ski lifts are breathtaking, you rise up over a conifer forest which is so high it is outstanding and looking over the blue mountains is just amazing really!

Our son only snowboards and he has benefitted from excellent tuition up on the slopes.- There are plenty of fashion concious teenagers there. Ski hire is good, and competes well pricewise with other ski resorts in Western Europe. Tip to any beginner: Make sure your boots fit and bring lots of Compeed and plasters just in case!

Bansko / Bojurland Village area

Bansko is great for off piste fun. It is a regular town with supermarkets, churches, post offices, shops etc.. So you don't have that scary "swiss cottage backlot feel" you get in some manufactured places. There is a cool church which is really old - The Holy Trinity.

In the summer there is a Jazz festival of all things in August. My husband went and had a great time. Its got a real mediterranean feel with everone sipping their cappucinos outside in the sun

The place is full of these traditional taverns called Mehenas. There is a particularly good one down by the church where you can get a good dinner for four under fifty euros. The live music is an acquired taste but the atmosphere is usually buzzing and really friendly. We arrived as a family on our own but ate out every night with different people we met on the slopes. The Bulgarian wine is cheap and plentiful so your guaranteed a good night out on a budget.

The traditional Bansko taverns (called "Mehana"), with their exceptional charm and style offer local atmosphere by their cuisine and good selection of Bulgarian wines. Most of the local "Mehanas" even offer live folk music.

How to get there

• For the cheapest flights out to Sofia its a good idea to check out www.skyscanner.net.

. There is now a direct flight from Dublin to Sofia using Aer Lingus starting August 2008.

• There are cheap flights available from all UK airports, these include British Airways, Easy Jet, Bulgarian Airways and Ryanair. Try www.air.bg or wizzair.com and maybe www.bulgariaflights.com.

• Car hire is available from the airport and a company we have always found very reliable is www.rentomobile.com.

• We can organise to have you collected by an English speaking Bansko resident who will drop you from the airport to the door of the apartment for a small sum.

. You can find the apartment on Google Earth: latitude: 41 49 57.04 N longitude: 23 29 50.43 E

• You can get a coach or taxi transfer easily from the airport to the resort for €75 all in. The journey winding up through the mountains is spectacular, especially when there is snow!

• There is a train from Sofia to Bansko but it takes eight hours and you may be quicker walking!

A lovely ground floor balcony leads from this room which gives you an opportunity to enjoy New Years night fireworks display or just stare up at the endless stars in this unpolluted part of the world.

Off this is an ultra modern, all mod cons little kitchen with everything you could need to cater for yourselves.(touch panel hob etc...) There is a well stocked mini market nearby for picking up essentials. We have left tea and coffee and sugar of course.

Off this you go through to the interior of the apartment to a bright double bedroom with French style furniture, soft duvets and fluffy pillows. At the end of the apartment is another bedroom with lovely bunk beds and plenty of storage. There is linen change in the wardrobe.

There is also another fully tiled bathroom with high spec fixtures and fittings and heated towel rail beside the second bedroom. The apartment is solidly made with good heavy doors, and a bright sunny aspect.

All in all its a lovely apartment which was fitted out by a family with other families in mind.

Further details

This property is on the ground floor with two small steps (no ramp). We had a child in a wheelchair last year and we were able to manage fine. It is fine for buggy users and very safe as you need to get through three doors to get from the apartment to the gardens.

This is a non smoking apartment. We keep the apartment to a really great standard as we use it ourselves on occasion. Its really homely and comfortable. Unlike some, we did not scrimp on the fixtures and fittings!
