The Pirin/Rhodope Mountains region
Bansko has had heavy investment in its ski facilities which include 65km of skiing and a brand new lift system. In recent years, Bansko has had the best snow cover but there is also a new system of snow-making machines with 53 cannons to boost skiing conditions.
Bansko is a small town packed with history and atmosphere and its cuisine and folklore are renowned across Bulgaria. Unlike other resorts, Bansko is not purpose built. The village itself dates back to medieval times and has many traditional stone and wood built taverns.
With around 40 Mehanas, hotel restaurants and street cafés, there are a wide range of places to eat; a 3 course meal with wine in any of the Mehanas can cost as little as £6. All Mehanas serve traditional Bulgarian cuisine and a selection of house wines.
The square is lined with street café’s serving both imported beers as well as the high quality local brews for around 50p! Popular nightclubs include the Buddha Bar club, Amnesia and Club No Name which is open until 4AM.
Bansko / Bojurland Village area
Bansko has the best snow conditions in Bulgaria and will offer good skiing from the end of December all the way through to mid May. Additionally a new system of snow-making machines with 53 cannons has been installed which will guarantee good snow conditions even towards the end of the season.
Bansko is the gateway to the Pirin mountain region and is certainly Bulgaria’s up and coming ski resort. It offers an irresistible combination of high mountains and ancient history.
The skiing conditions are excellent with the Pirin Mountain having predominantly Alpine character with 3 peaks towering above 2900m. The slopes offer runs for all types of skier and snowboarder, from novice to expert. There are 15 pistes totalling 65km including a 16km run, plus cross country , off piste and even night skiing down the old mountain road. The mountain is served by a high speed gondola and a network of lifts for complete access. Bansko has had heavy investment in its ski facilities which include 65km of skiing and a brand new lift system.
The Bansko Ski School is excellent with English speaking instructors, and ski classes in 5 difficulty levels. Children above the age of 5 can attend ski school.
How to get there
Bansko is located in South West Bulgaria in the foothills of the Pirin mountain range, about 2 and half hours from both Sofia and Plovdiv International airports.
There are daily flights by budget airlines Easy Jet from London & Manchester, Wizzair fly from Luton. Bulgaria Air fly from Gatwick & Manchester.
Airport transfers can be arranged upon request with a very reliable company at reasonable rates.
