Home description
Named after the river which runs through Bansko, our apartment in Glazne 2 is extremely spacious and well equipped. The apartment is modern yet comfortable with a wood burning fire to create a cosy feel. Unlike most apartments in Bansko, our apartment also has a bath to relax in after a long day on the slopes. For added peace of mind our English and Bulgarian property managers live just next door and are available to help with any problems or needs which may arise making it an ideal choice for families.
Bansko is primarily known as Bulgarias premier ski resort but it is also developing as a summer resort. The resort has benefitted from major investment and now boasts very modern facilities with over 70km of runs which accommodate the intermediate and beginner skier particularly well. During the summer months the Pirin mountains afford fabulous alpine style walking. Locally there are plenty of historic places and natural mineral baths to visit. Bansko is a mix of the very old and the modern. It is as easy to sample local food in traditional restaurants known as mehanas as it is revel in modern nightclubs with European DJ's. In short it appeals to every type of holidaymaker.

The Pirin/Rhodope Mountains region
Situated some 160km south of Sofia, Bansko can be found in the south west corner of the country. To the west of Bansko lies the Pirin Mountain range, consisting of 45 peaks all over 2590m high, the highest of which is Mount Vihren at 2914 metres. The mountains are predominantly granite characterised by glacial cirques and 186 lakes. Though establised as a winter resort, Bansko is developing its summer activities as it can boast wonderful walking through beautiful mountain scenery rich in flora and fauna as well as mountain biking and white water rafting down the Struma and Mesta rivers. Bansko itself was an important nineteenth century stop-off on the trade routes linking the Aegean port of Kavalla with the Balkan hinterland. Now designated a UNESCO world heritage site, Bansko's old quarters consist of a myriad of narrow cobbled streets flanked by timber-framed stone houses. Its modern centre is pedestrianised with a large central square lined with cafes and shops.
Bansko / Glazne area
Skiers of all abilities are well catered for as Bansko has over 65km of marked ski runs easily accessed by an impressive Doppelmayer Gondola cable lift which in less than 20 minutes takes you to the ski centre 12 km away from the town. The ski runs are all accessed by new chair lifts which all utilise SkiData chip-card ski passes to reduce waiting times and queues. In the Plato area, snowboarders can enjoy the funpark with its array of artificial bumps and jumps. Powder skiing, heli-skiing and para-gliding are also available locally. On Saturdays, skiers and snowboarders can relax in the restaurants in the Banderitsa area and then after sunset ski down the 7km flood-lit run back to town. Bansko is packed with traditional restaurants or "mehanas" offering local and traditional Bugarian food and music. Several nightclubs including the Happy End at the Gondola base station , the Amnesia and the Buddha Bar add a modern flavour to the town and are often host to European DJ's. The bowling alley at the Strazhite hotel and the ice rink provide good family entertainment and don't forget if you are a bit achey there is a sauna and jacuzzi in the basement of our apartment block and a resident masseur can be booked to come directly to the apartment. On a Sunday it is worth visiting the local market in the centre of town which sells everything from cowbells to clothes. During the summer months Bansko becomes an ideal base for hiking in the Pirin Mountains and for sight seeing. The Rila monastery, the Bear Park, mineral springs and Melnik (a traditional Bulgarian hill village) are all easily accessible.

Guestbook
The apartment was great, lots of room, clean and especially liked the info board and info pack with little maps etc. Really makes a difference when a little effort is put into explaining the town itself, made it a lot more enjoyable. We tried most of the recommended restaurants and loved them. We didn't really come across any problems but Tosh's communication and timing was without fault. The holiday was fantastic and we will definitely be looking at another one. J Hacking (march 080
