The Pirin/Rhodope Mountains region
Bansko is Bulgaria’s number one ski resort. According to the ski legends Marc Girardeli and Hans Trincle the world 5 times down slope champion, Bansko ski centre is state of the art and outshines many of the legendary ski resorts in Europe. Over 40 Million Euros have been invested in the ski runs and facilities. This beautiful alpine resort boasts a long ski season (Dec 15 –May 15) which is helped by 44 technoalpine snow cannons .The ski pistes are located in 2 main centres, the highest peak is 2914m, the length of the marked pistes are 65 km. Bansko’s ultra modern Gondola take you to the slopes. The cable cars , seat lifts are of the latest Dopplemayer and Poma models with several drags and baby drags. The slalom and giant slalom runs are available as well as cross country tracks. The slopes offer runs and tracks for all types of skiers and snow boarders. All the equipment can be used by on chip card from skidata.
• For snow boarders in Bansko they have the first theme park in the Balkans. • The Yulen Ski school has excess of 100 licensed instructors with experience of working in Austria and Switzerland. Training is offered in English, German, Russian, Dutch and Greek languages. Courses are organised in groups according to skill level and all courses are certificated. There is a kinder garden school for 4-7 year olds. • Yulen provide Heli ski service, choppers and Paraplane sky diving. • There are huge monitors at the starting station of the Gondola giving information of slope activities, wind and temperature conditions. • Mountain rescue patrols guard the slopes and assure the safety of the skiers. The stations have medical staff and medical facilities. • The 7km ski track from Banderishka Polyana to the lower Gondola is illuminated at night.
Bansko / Bansko Old Town area
Bansko is a beautiful historic mountain town surrounded by the Pirin, Rila and Rhodope mountains. It enjoys long winters and beautiful summers. Bansko boasts the National Pirin park which is included in UNESCO list according to the convention on the preservation of cultural and historic heritage. The Bansko section of the park includes the Vihren peak (2914m) and contains 100 of the 176 high mountain glacial lakes in the Pirin mountain aswell as the “ Banderishki shok”, “ ylenski shok” and Demyamishki shok” waterfalls. The rock formations of “ Koncheto “ and “ Strzhite” are national rock climbing destinations.
Along with it being a superb ski resort it is host of the Jazz festival and Bulgarian Folk festival in summer. The unique combination of a well developed mountain resort and a living historical town turns this into an elegant place for entertainment. The traditional Bansko Taverns offer local atmosphere with good food and excellent wine. There are numerous bars and clubs to choose from. The town itself attracts visitors who flock to visit its 120 cultural monuments, its museums and permanent ethnographic exhibitions.
Equally attractive in all seasons and something for everyone any time of the year, from skiing, heli-skiing, snow boarding, trekking, cycling, walking, fishing, horse riding, sight seeing, healing spas to wine tasting. Bansko and the local village Dobrinishte (6 km from Bansko) offers hot mineral springs, mud baths, mineral baths with water temperatures 28 –58 degrees celcius and an outdoor mineral swimming pool. There is excellent horse riding facilities there also.
