The Pirin/Rhodope Mountains region

Bansko lies in the South-Eastern part of Bulgaria, at the tip of the Pirin National park. The town lies amongst green fields and forests shadowed by the ice-capped Mount Vihren, the highest peak in the Pirin range.

Bansko has a population of around 10,000 people. Unlike most Bulgarian towns, the modern architecture coexists easily with the old quarters, a maze of cobbled streets lined with timber-framed stone houses, churches, shops and bars (known locally as Mehanas). The old quarters date back hundreds of years.

Bansko area

Nightlife - Bansko has a great selection of bars and restaurants (called Mehanas) as well as a number of night clubs, ten-pin bowling, casinos, and live entertainment

Excursions - Mineral spas, Rila Monastery, Melnik Winery, Bear park, Yagodinska Cave, Mountain train journey to Velingrad

Winter activities - Skiing/Snowboarding with terrain park and half-pipe, night skiing, off-piste, heli-skiing and ski-doo safari (Kids are welcome at the Bansko ski kindergarten where they are taken care of with plenty of fun activities, leaving the grown-ups to take to the slopes)

Summer activities - Golf, Mountain biking, hiking, white water rafting, rock climbing, horse riding, paintball, paragliding, caving, jeep safaris and fishing.

How to get there

Flights are available direct from Belfast, Dublin, London and Manchester to Sofia or Plovdiv. Among the 13 airlines flying from the UK and Ireland, is budget airline Wizzair which provides regular flights for less than £100 return. Full information and links can be found at www.escape2bansko.com

When you arrive at the airport, your driver will meet you at the arrivals lounge and drive you directly to the apartment in Bansko. When you arrive, Sally will have the place warmed up and give your a brief tour of the apartment before leaving you to enjoy your holiday.

If you have hired a car or wish to travel by bus, our friends will meet you when you arrive in town and take you to the apartment. If you arrive during office hours they'll take you for a complimentary drink at the bar next door to warm you up.

If you plan to travel to Bansko by bus, there is a regular service travelling from the main bus station in Sofia. Our friends in Bansko will then either meet you at the apartment or at the office on Pirin Street.

We stayed in the apartment for a week in October 07, and had a great time. Nice apartment in a good location. Handy to have Sir Galahad next door.

We had a fantastic stay at Little Snow Jewel. It had all the luxury facilities that we could have wished for. We particularly liked the location as there is great walking access to the gondola station, Pirin Street and the historical town centre. The apartment is brand new and there are breathtaking mountain views to wake up to every morning. The apartment is also child friendly and we received a warm welcome from Anton and Sally at Balkan PMS. We used the taxi service and found the vehicles clean and reliable. We would recommend the steak house in Pirin Street for a good value for money meal and the happy end bar for apres ski drinks. We found the tuition at Salomon excellent and would like to recommend 'Oggi' for his tremendous patience! Bansko rocks!! P.S It snowed continuously throughout our stay!

The apartment was ideal for a family of 4. Modern clean & well equipped. It was also conveniently close to the gondola station. Balkan PMS management staff were also very helpful including meeting us at 3:30 am on arrival!

Hi, had a great time staying in Bansko. The apartment is new and comfortable, with great views up towards the mountains. It's only 5 minutes or so walk from the bottom of the lifts too! Having a sauna downstairs really helps out with the aching muscles after a day on the slopes too!
I'd also suggest the Hotel Karol restaurant for good food at some of the best prices in Bansko. It's just around the corner too :)

Cheers,
Liam (Feb 2007)

Best thing i can say, is look at the photo's, look at the apartment and get it booked!!! 5mins from lift with a great crepe place on route, lovely after a long day......

I had a Happy New Year as the first guest at the Little Snow Jewel. The apartment is well equipped, modern, warm and very well sited with only a short walk to the lifts.

Mark was on hand before I travelled to answer all the small questions which added that personal touch and the web page is full of information to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

Highly recommended!

Denise from Northern Ireland (New Year 2007)
