The Pirin/Rhodope Mountains region
Bansko mountain resort is situated in South-West Bulgaria in the foothills of the awe-inspiring Pirin Mountain range. Bansko / Bojurland Village area
Bansko offers some of the finest skiing in Eastern Europe, with the best snow record and longest ski season of all Bulgaria's ski resorts (mid-December to May). Multi-million Euro investment has ensured that Bansko has positioned itself as a candidate for the 2014 Winter Olympics, offering Alpine quality at Bulgarian prices, whilst maintaining the delightful atmosphere of an ancient small Bulgarian town. Bansko has a legendary apres-ski offering more than 100 traditional 'mehanas' , many of which have traditional live music, nightclubs, restaurants and casinos.
Bansko's diverse, newly renovated, wide tree-lined pistes provide a challenge for skiers of any level. Suitable for beginners with plenty of good blue runs to practice on, the superb English speaking ski school with ski classes at 5 levels of difficulty, ensure you quickly get to grips with the basics. The ski area is a paradise for intermediate skiers with a total ski run length of 65 km and a lift network of 26 km covering 14 picturesque, well-maintained pistes. For the more advanced, there is a 16km run as well as top quality off piste and cross country skiing.
As well as being a first class ski resort, Bansko can also provide the perfect summer getaway - come May, the long, cold winter becomes a distant memory as Bansko is transformed into a summer resort with a lively cafe culture. As well as hosting the Summer Jazz Festival, the Bulgarian Folk Festival and many other cultural events, visitors have a multitude of ways to keep themselves busy. Walking, hiking and mountain biking are all extremely popular whilst white-water rafting, horse riding, canoeing and fishing are all offered within the immediate vicinity of Bansko and Pirin National Park. There is even an Ian Woosnam designed golf course being developed only minutes away.
