The Pirin/Rhodope Mountains region
Between the Pirin and Rhodope mountains, Bansko is at the foot of the Pirin National Park. At an elevation of just under 1000 metres the town experiences heavy snow falls from November to April. A two station Gondola gives access to ski runs at Chalin Valog (as does the ski run back to Bansko) and the upper slopes where a variety of state of the art ski lifts whisk you to a height of over 2500 metres. It is also possible to ski all the way down to the Gondola, a ski run of 16km from the summit! There is reliable snow cover for up to 5 months of the year and the resort is equipped with numerous snow canons to ensure optimum skiing conditions throughout the season.
There is great skiing, snowboarding as well as Extreme Skiing, paragliding and helicopter trips at Bansko, and there is no doubt that Bansko is now the best and most modern ski centre in Bulgaria having the best snow record and the longest ski season (15th Dec - 15th May) of all the Bulgarian ski resorts. The total length of marked pistes is over 70km. There are 44 Snow Cannons which cover most of the slopes and extend the ski season.
In the summer Bansko is host to a traditional Summer Jazz Festival, the Bulgarian Folk Festival and many other cultural events. The town also provides a great base for white water rafting, horse riding, walking, mountain biking and a soon to be opened golf course designed by Ian Woosnam.
There are about 250 sunny days a year.
Bansko / Mountain View Resort area

In the summer there is also available horse riding, fishing, golf, bear park, ten pin bowling, quad biking, white water rafting and Mountain Biking.
The cost of living is low in Bulgaria. Bansko boasts an abundance of après ski life, including numerous restaurants, taverns, nightclubs, casinos, an ice rink, bowling alleys, and horse riding. The traditional taverns are known as Mehanas and offer a great local atmosphere with plenty of charm and often host live folk music. There are many cultural and historical monuments both in the town and in the surrounding region if you have time to explore, with a wide variety of shops supplying essential ski wear and equipment as well as the usual souvenirs.
