Home description
This lovely old country house, dating from the 18th century, is set in private grounds with mature gardens, backed by the beautiful Glen of Aherlow and the famous Galtee mountains. Once owned by General Sir William Butler, the Butlers of Ormond crest is still evident on the façade of the Round Tower, highlighting the rich heritage of this unique residence.
Bansha Castle is a perfect location for historical and cultural pursuits. Bansha lies at the centre of the heritage trail; The Rock of Cashel, Holycross Abbey and the Medieval City of Kilkenny are all near by.
Prefer something less energetic? Why not pamper yourself with a massage or beauty treatment in the comfort of your own room. Your hosts will be happy to make all the arrangements.
Don't feel like cooking every night? The owners occupy a completely separate wing to the main house and are available to provide award winning catering at an additional cost should you require it.

The Limerick / Tipperary / County Tipperary region
Bansha Castle is a perfect location for historical and cultural pursuits. Bansha lies at the centre of the heritage trail; The Rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle, Holycross Abbey, Mitchelstown Caves and the Medieval City of Kilkenny are all near by.
Furthermore, the Castle lies at the gateway to the Glen of Aherlow, sixteen miles of unspoilt countryside affording some of the most breathtaking scenery imaginable.
Bansha area
The Glen of Aherlow is a quiet country valley, secluded but not isolated. It stretches from the N24, South of the heritage town of Tipperary, through sixteen miles of unspoilt countryside affording some of the most breathtaking scenery imaginable.
The Glen sits between the Galtee mountains on the south and the Slievenamuck Ridge on the North. The Galtees, Irelands highest inland mountain range, boast five spectacular corrie lakes, dominated by a variety of magnificent peaks including Galteemore at 3,018 ft. This expansive vista is further enhanced by the many streams cascading down the face of the mountain. The foothills are forested as is the 12 miles of the Slievenamuck ridge, providing the walker with a variety of delightful woodland trails.
As well as walking there are also opportunities for horse riding, cycling and fishing locally with three golf courses nearby. The Glen provides a natural and unspoilt environment that makes an ideal location for those who want to get away from it all.
How to get there
5 miles South of Tipperary Town on the N 24. I hour from Cork and Shannon international airports. 2 hours from Dublin airport.

Guestbook for Bansha Castle
"Simply visit this abode as it is a super secret spot to snuggle up together. The atmosphere in this home is relaxed and friendly and reminiscent of when the 'big house' was regarded as a fortress from the outside world and the inner sanctum of the good life" Irish Tatler Magazine.
