The Bangkok region
Bangkok is the thriving capital of Thailand, the best city in Asia!
Set on the main riverside area of Bangkok, Baan Sathorn Chaophraya is the perfect place to stay whilst in Bangkok, it offers a central river location, a soothing yet vibrant river scene that enables you to detach yourself from the 24/7 bustle that can be Bangkok.
Access to the rest of the City is easy. The Skytrain station Saphan Taksin is just across the river, use Baan Sathorn’s own ferry service to cross the river, the public ferry or walk over the bridge. From here Sala Daeng is three stops and Siam "the centre" is just over 10 minutes by skytrain. There is also the main Bangkok pier across the river, so you can explore by boat - Temples, ChinaTown, Flower market, Grand Palace, Old Siam, Wats, Canals, Khao San Road.
For more info on the area search for "TheRiverSideBangkok".
Check out our Bangkok "locations" through our website, or click on the 'Send Enquiry' button.
This area is home to all the five star hotels and is a historic part of the city - hop onto the Hotel boats to help you explore the area, there are loads of restaurants to suit all budgets (I thought the pavements were for pedestrians but here they are for selling delicious foodstuffs), markets and shops. Numerous bars - from the Sirocco roof top bar on the State tower, the famous Bamboo jazz bar in the Oriental to the cool inexpensive Thai "Be my guest" riverside bar by the Hilton Millenium (don't forget the 360 bar at the top of the Millenium).
Transport: It is true that Bangkok’s roads can be quite congested at times. However the Skytrain and the underground are available to solve that situation. Best to buy a ticket for 300 baht that lasts about thirty days and gives you about 40 journeys. It takes just over ten minutes to get to Siam.
Personally I am not keen on Tuk-tuks as you can never really see where you are going, they are open to fumes and the price negotiations can be a bit tiresome, however they are an experience and can be useful for short journeys.
Taxi’s are very cheap compared with the UK, always ask for the journey to be on the meter, they might want to do it on a fixed price especially if you have not flagged them down or it might be particularly busy, then it is up to you but it will be more expensive.
To get back to Baan Sathorn Choaphraya the proper address that the taxi drivers will know is “Charoen (pronounced Jarron) Nakorn, soi zip ha A”, this translates to small road 15A off Charoen Nakorn road. Alternatively say the Pennisula Hotel and then guide them from there.
I try to avoid using taxis at rush hour but if I am out in Sukhumvit, near Nana or Asok for example at night, it only takes about fifteen minutes to get back, cant remember the cost but I don’t think its over 80 baht (£1.50) including tip.
If you are on your own and there is a lot of traffic about you can always get on the back of a motorbike which will save you time, its fun but could be a bit more dangerous than normal, make sure they give you a helmet.
Finally there are many river boats going up and down and Bangkok's main pier is just across the river, A ticket cost about 120 baht a day for unlimited trips (get more info at the pier), but you can just do one stop if you like and it works much like a bus. Talking of buses, they are also a big source of transport around Bangkok a trip costs seven baht. I use them occasionally but am unfamiliar with the routes to make the best use of them.
Crossing the river: You can cross using Baan Sathorns own ferry ( 6am-10pm on the week days,6am-11.30am then 3pm to 8:30pm on the weekend ). To get to the pier go out of the reception of the apartment building, turn right and go through the car park, past the shops and you will come to the river.
Alternatively if you go out of the building to the main road and turn right, past the park and under the road to the right is a small road that leads to the public ferry (3 baht).
Of course you can also walk across the bridge using the pedestrian sidewalks.
Food Shopping: Nearby you can see the Centre Point building across the river from the apartment, below this is Robinsons department store. Simply cross the river and to the right is Robinsons, in the basement is the food department and some restaurants which include an MK restaurant and Swensons.
The main road which is called Charoen Nakorn has to the right a Family Mart and Seven Eleven convenience stores as well as a host of other shops and restaurants, also to the left are a lot of typical delicious Thai cheap restaurants (noodles and a coke around 50 baht) and other stores selling various foods that are well worth exploring.
There are many cashpoint machines around, the nearest is a bank tucked away about 50 yards to the left along Charoen Nakorn, there is another ATM to the right outside the Family Mart.
Bottled water: This can be purchased just outside to the left of the building, from the small yellow stores. Alternatively the shop on the way to the pier sells water as well.
Massage: A good place for a Thai massage is Health Land just past Surasak BTS. To get there cross the river and get on the BTS or take a taxi, it is about 200 metres past Surasak on the main Sathorn road on the left. You can buy a book of ten massages for 2,500 Baht working out 250 Baht for a two hour session, it is a bit more expensive if you buy singularly. A tip of at least 100 Baht to the masseur at the end is the polite thing to do.

"Best vacation ever! Can't wait to be back."
The owner sent us very, precise, useful information on how to make our way from the airport to the apartment, directions were stress free. There was an option of using a known local, reliable taxi person for pick ups, drop offs and sight-seeing - very convenient. Arriving at the apartment, we were handed the keys and escorted to the apartment. Really, it was quicker than checking into a hotel. There was a mail from the owner greeting us and letting us know of a phone number we could call if we needed help on anything. It was a pleasure to meet Mr Jonathan. A day after we checked in he popped by to say hello and asked if we had any queries- very nice of him.The apartment is spotless and very well equipped with crockery and appliances..iron, hair dryer, rice cooker etc etc. The views from every window - day and night views are both spectacular. The apartment is located across the river from the Taksin train station and included with the amenities is a half hourly, 3 min river boat ride to get to the other side of the river. Another feature that we thoroughly enjoyed was the huge swimming pool (and the view) and the gym. We would recommend this apartment for anyone wanting an unusual, calm, stress free and fun stay in Bangkok. I dont think we have received such amazing service and privacy in any hotel stay. Thank you for the wonderful stay and the beautiful memories. We know we will surely be back soon.

"In the heart of the city"
"This is a fantastic place to stay; I recommend it highly. It is everything the owner says in the description, and the views ARE truly breathtaking. The owners are great to work with; the transaction was effortless, and both the owners and the onsite managers are very responsive. The property is beautiful, secure, clean and well-maintained. If you are going to stay in Bangkok, give this property serious consideration."
