The Koh Samui region
Koh Samui is one of Thailand's most fascinating and exotic holiday destinations. It is the largest of the 80 islands, rocks and reefs which lie off the eastern coast of Suratthani province and together make up the Samui archipelago in The Gulf of Siam.
Samui enjoys the warmth of a tropical climate softened by the cooling touch of the sea breeze. rarely does the temperature exceed 34 degrees celsius or drop below 24. Life here can be natural and unparalleled, perfectly in touch with nature's beauty.
The international backpack community discovered Samui as a leisure destination back in the seventies and ever since the island has increased its reputation as a state of the art attraction for holiday makers from all over the globe.
The people of Samui are gentle and easy going. Whatever they have to do will be done, sooner or later. Kick back, and enjoy the same laid back attitude.
Most visitors arrive on the island at the award winning Samui airport. Bangkok Airways operate more than forty domestic flights a day from Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Krabi and international flights direct from Singapore and Hong Kong. Thai Airways plus several other smaller airlines also operate on routes including Kuala Lumpar.
There are also ferry ports in Nathon and on the west coast for travellers arriving from Suratthani airport or by train or bus from Bangkok.
Bang Po Beach
Bang Por, also known as Bang Po, is a quiet sea side area on the north coast of the island lying between the towns of Maenam and Nathon. Largely undeveloped compared to the main holiday destinations of Chaweng and Lamai, Bang Por is home to several small restaurants selling locally caught fish and sea food, as well as European and Thai cuisine.
You are also in walking distance of various health spas and resorts offering wellness treatments and massages to help you relax, improve blood circulation, acupuncture, and other alternative treatments.
The gently sloping sugar sand beach is safe and ideal for young children to play and swim in the warm blue waters. Fringed with gently swaying palm trees it is the picture postcard image of a tropical retreat.
