The Koh Samui region

When you fly over Koh Samui upon arrival you will see that it takes its place in a ribbon of islands including Koh Phangan ( home to the famous Full Moon parties!), the Anthong National Park and Koh Tao. Guests can enjoy a fabulous day trip to any of these islands for snorkeling, diving, kayaking, sightseeing and eating at local restaurants.
The climate is tropical, mostly 30 C, with gentle sea breezes. The rainy season is short and pre Christmas.
Samui itself is a small island where nothing is further that 30 mins away by jeep. You can go elephant trekking, take a jungle adventure or explore the many beautiful beaches around the island. Other popular sights include the Big Buddha, the Muslim fishing village, Grandfather/ Grandmother rocks, waterfalls and the many Watts (temples).
Nearby Nathon, capital of the island, is great for local shopping, markets, restaurants and bars. A visit to the Sunset bar, followed by sampling the food stalls at the ferry piers is a must. Chaweng is the most developed tourist beach on the island, a hotspot for night life, with shops, bars and restaurants of every description and price range. Closer to home we recommend Bophut Fisherman's village and Maenam for ATMS, shops, restaurants and bars.
For self caterers there is even a huge Tesco/Lotus near Chaweng with a multiplex cinema and Bowling Ally.
10 mins down the road is a truly world class 18 hole, 6000m golf course with a fabulous club house and views to die for. The restaurant is open to all.
The Bang Po Beach / Coconut River area
Coconut River is a unique development. It is well named with soaring coconut palms giving some shade to the beautiful tropical garden which lies beneath the palms and embraces the eight houses of Coconut River and its sparkling swimming pool. The pool incorporates a Jacuzzi and a shallower section for those less confident in the water. Our guests love the pool, garden and sea views and often refer to it as a hidden treasure. Beautiful in sunlight, drenched by tropical rain or illuminated by house lights in the evening, Coconut River is a tranquil delight.
Bang Por beach, always visible from Bahn Nam Soey, is 3.5 Km long and remains essentially an unspoilt local beach. As you stroll along it or sunbathe you will be able to watch fishermen work the edge of the reef or see them catch squid at night with their lamps and spears. The beautiful Anthong National Park shimmers in the distance and Koh Phangan beckons across the bay. It is a very safe beach and can provide some absorbing snorkelling. You will find many local restaurants within easy walking distance where you can dine at the water's edge at very modest prices.
Don't forget to have a massage on the terrace!

Bahn Nam Soey is a lovely home, with so many personal touches and comforts. Beautiful tropical gardens, a very well-maintained pool and beautiful beach are right outside the door. As well, all amenities, including inexpensive restaurants are within walking distance, but it's worth hiring a car to explore the island. Brian and Gill were so friendly and helpful, always quick to reply to any questions. We can't imagine a better vacation! |

I stayed at Bahn Nam Soey for a week and didn't want to leave. The house is spacious and comfortable and nicely decorated. The bedrooms are all air-conditioned, which I found a necessity, not being used to the heat and humidity on Koh Samui. The main living area has celing fans, which dis a good job of keeping us comfortable. The house is located in a small (8 houses), private section of houses called Coconut River, off the main road in the Northwest corner of the island. The grounds are gorgeous and well-cared-for: palm trees and all sorts of flowering plants. The pool, which is steps from the house's verandah, is large and clean and so refreshing, and the beach is a 30-second walk beyond the pool. It was low season, and the peace and quiet was perfect for us. Potential renters should know that this home is away from the more-crowded and touristy areas. We could walk to a few restaurants (all good and reasonably priced), as well as to a 7-Eleven store, an outdoor produce market, and the ever-handy ATM. To get to other areas of the island, we simply stood at the road and hailed either a taxi or a little "bus" (a pickup truck with seats in the covered back). After negotiating a price for our destination, we'd just hop in and go. If you want a lot of convenient nightlife, etc., this home may be too isolated for you. It was the perfect mix of peace and beauty for us, and we never had trouble getting where we wanted to go if we were patient enough to wait for transportation to come along the road. If you rent a car, you'll have no trouble with this location at all. I highly recommend it for a relaxing getaway. |
Guestbook for Bahn Nam Soey
"We just wanted to say that if there was a heaven on earth then you must have found it at Bahn Nam Soey! What a fabulous place – we absolutely loved your home, the location and Madam Jeeds!, We kept away from the touristy areas and really enjoyed our boat trip with Mr Mhoo (infact we went twice) and were very successful in catching over 15 fish! Your villa was perfect, so comfortable and spacious with everything one needs on holiday. The children loved the two step walk to the pool and the 15 step walk to the beach! Nicky and Tony 2011
