About this location
The Oregon Coast region
Oregon is full of spectacular natural beauty. The beaches are beyond compare in their untouched state. The numerous rock formations and long, wide beaches are magical to visit anytime of the day, especially in Bandon.
Along the beaches expect to see gulls, shorebirds, birds of prey, and in the offshore waters sea ducks (except during nesting season) and alcids. The headlands and offshore rocks, protected by the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge, provide nesting habitat for 13 species of seabirds including gulls, pigeon guillemots, three species of cormorants, common murres, and tufted puffins.
Oregon has become famous for their New World wines, especially Pinot Noir. Day trips to wineries are very popular with visitors to Bandon Birdhouse. For more information about Oregon, we would suggest you visit the Travel Oregon website.
The birds that call Bandon home, at least some part of the year, are listed on the Birding Info page on our website - and it's an impressive list! The pond behind the Bandon Birdhouse is just the beginning of special spots around here. As the touchstone for your visit to the Southern Oregon Coast, you won't find a better place to call home.
Bandon is thought by many to be the best in Oregon for migrant shorebirds. All of the regularly occurring species can be found here, along with an impressive list of vagrants. Large offshore rocks in the area support colonies of nesting seabirds. Redmon Pond is a favorite of the local birders in all seasons. That's your private pond while staying at the Bandon Birdhouse!
Open ocean, beaches, estuaries, old-growth forests, and river valleys are surrounding you here. Pelagic birding involves going out on the ocean by boat to observe seabirds such as alcids like common murres and rhinoceros auklets, as well as the long distance fliers like albatrosses, petrels, and shearwaters. Sport boats are moored here in Bandon and nearby Charleston.
If you have golfers in your life, they probably have already heard of Bandon because of the Bandon Dunes golf resort. The courses can be found across the river from the Birdhouse. For tee time reservations and other information, you can visit the resort web page and even see their real-time web cam!
Just a short drive south to Port Orford, you will be able to stand on the most westerly point in the continental U.S. at the Cape Blanco Lighthouse. Truly at the end of the Oregon Trail!
