Bandon is a town steeped in history dating back to 1600. It's a perfect spot for touring the South West and is known as the Gateway to West Cork
Other towns of note include Kinsale, Clonakilty, Rosscarbery, Glandore, Skibbereen, Baltimore, Lough Hyne, Bantry and the Beara Peninsula.
The Bandon, County Cork area
Bandon is a bustling market town in the heartland of some of the richest farmland in the county and just 10 minutes drive from a spectacular coastline. The river is a haven for wildlife and offers great sea trout and salmon fishing. The town is rich in history.
It was founded in 1604 as an English settlement for plantation settlers mainly from Somerset. The West Cork Heritage centre in the town is the oldest church in the country built for protestant worship. It now houses an interesting museum.
