The Aberdeenshire region

Auchattie is a 5 minute drive / 15 minute walk to Banchory which is a vibrant town in Royal Deeside .

The River Dee meanders over 66 miles from its source in the hills above Braemar to the North Sea at Aberdeen . The river is surrounded by superb forests and overlooked by impressive mountains and hills in what is one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert so loved the area in the19th century that they had Balmoral Castle built and it is one of several impressive castles in the area .Members of the Royal Family stay there on a regular basis. Royal Deeside offers the opportunity to walk or cycle over miles of forest tracks or by the River Dee or climb hills mountains or ski in the winter at nearby ski slopes. There are some wonderful and testing Golf Courses, great fishing on the River Dee or at local trout fisheries. Several Distilleries offer the opportunity to learn how whisky is made and also to taste a wee dram! There are many restaurants and hotels serving good food very often with local produce. Aberdeen is only 15 miles away and offers the excitement of a vibrant busy harbour. Dolphins can be seen at the breakwater. The quieter Old Aberdeen with its 500 year old St Machar Cathedral and Kings College Chapel is a good place to visit. In summer many of the Deeside villages have their own Highland Games and Agricultural Shows . The famous Braemar Gathering is held on the first Saturday in September when members of the Royal family attend.
