Barn Forge Cottage

Cottage | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 2

Key Info
  • Not suitable for children
  • Car advised
  • Pets welcome

Barnforge sits at the edge of the village within walking distance of two real ale pubs, a local butcher, village shop, newsagent and French bakery.

As the cottage name implies, this was once the workplace of the local blacksmith and is now a lovely detached holiday cottage in the centre of this delightful north Oxfordshire village. The contemporary style of the cottage continues throughout with quality soft furnishings, neutral colours with a splash of red, a brick fireplace and hearth that has a working wood burning stove (starter supply of fuel provided). The south-facing courtyard (with furniture) can be a little sun-trap so ideal for that evening glass or two, a great way to relax at any time of day.

Brailes is a characterful village with some fabulous walks on the doorstep, in fact, 'Jim's Walks' (as on the Brailes village website) suggests 10 circular walks most of which are dog friendly. Pets are welcome (by arrangement please) at this holiday cottage and whilst it does not have a garden there are walks just minutes away. Banbury and Stratford-upon-Avon are around 12 miles for shopping, sightseeing and of course the theatre. The ancient market town of Shipston-on-Stour is 3 miles away for antique shops, local pubs and eateries.

On the edge of the Cotswolds for Chipping Norton, Stow-on-the-Wold, Burford and with Warwick 20 miles, Oxford 30 miles and easy access to the M40 for London or Birmingham this is a central location for a great cottage holiday!

Ground floor: Spacious entrance hall with the fridge in the cupboard, open plan sitting/dining room with a sofa, tub chair, TV, coffee table and lamps, dining table and chairs, dresser. Kitchen area with a two ring work top oven, microwave, etc. Bedroom with beds that can be made as a king-size or two singles, bed side tables and lamps, wardrobe, chest of drawers. En-suite shower room.

The Central England/Cotswolds region

From Windsor to the Welsh Borders our area offers a taste of what was and what is...fabulous properties of historic and architectural interest that sit alongside pretty tea rooms, gastro pubs, shops, restaurants etc etc!

In a simply stunning Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are the Cotswolds with the unique honey-coloured stone, ancient woodlands and miles of rolling hills and over 3,000 miles of public footpaths. The rivers Windrush and Coln trickle their way through some of the prettiest Cotswold towns and villages you will ever come across, Burford, Bourton-on-the-Water and Bibury. Royal Berkshire and the Thames Valley are on the doorstep of the Capital. Stay in Windsor (with a royal neighbour!), be close to Henley-on-Thames famous for Henley Regatta or walk The Thames Path as the river meanders through rural villages, historic towns and peaceful water meadows before it reaches the Thames Barrier in the heart of London. From your 'own' front door you can explore the contrasts of Worcestershire, Herefordshire & Shropshire. Visit the theatres at Stratford-upon-Avon, walk the Ridgeway Path from the Thames in the west through to the atmospheric Chiltern Hills.

Our towns and villages optimise the English rural scene...cricket on the green, a glass of locally brewed beer, peace and quiet - lovely!

Banbury

Upper and Lower Brailes are two thriving villages with good local amenities. A few miles from the medieval town of Shipston on Stour and 10 miles from the market town of Banbury you have a choice of local shops, antique shops, tea rooms and local pubs in Shipston or the crisp, modern shopping centre at Castle Quay in Banbury.

Shakespeare's Stratford and Stow-on-the-Wold in the Cotswolds are both less than 15 miles. The M40 at Banbury gives easy access to Oxford and London.

"A lot less than we expected."

The photos of the property are highly flattering and it is much much smaller than it appears and literally in the front garden of the owner meaning there is little to no privacy. The facilities were f… More

I am sorry to read that you were disppointed as Barn Forge has always been a popular cottage. The photos are fairly recent and clearly show the cooking facilities which are important being self-catering but they are as shown. The beds are two singles that the owner will make as a double so as to accommodate her guests needs. Them moving hasn't been mentioned before so I will mention this to her. The cottage is her garden, a lovely, well kept garden; she is there if needed but otherwise, likes to leave her cottage guests to enjoy their holiday. WIFI is often a problem as is mobile signal and whilst nothing can be done about the mobile signal, a I will pass on the comment regarding the WIFI to see if this can be improved upon. Thank you for taking the time to write.
