The County Galway/County Clare region

North-west of Banagher, on the Connaught side of the river is the site of the monastic establishment of Clonfert, with the more famous Clonmacnoise a short distance further north. Clonmacnoise, an early Christian site founded in the mid-6th century includes the ruins of a cathedral, seven churches, two round towers, three high crosses and the largest collection of Early Christian graveslabs in Western Europe.

Birr Castle, home to Lord and Lady Rosse and their family, is also home to Ireland's Historic Science Centre, The Great Telescope and demesne. Cloghan Castle is located between Gort and Loughrea, just outside the village of Kilchreest in Co. Galway.

The Slieve Bloom mountains is made up of forests, blanket bogs that are unique to Ireland, interspersed with hidden valleys of great character, and interest to the nature lovers.

The Shannon Regional Fisheries Board offers extensive game, coarse, pike and sea angling guides, describing the hundreds of fisheries located in the region.

Banagher is a scenic and charming Shannon-side village with an impressive history. As one of the few crossing points on the Shannon between the provinces of Leinster and Connaught, the village of Banagher held an important military strategic position. Any army that wanted to cross the river had few choices: Banagher, Athlone, Shannonbridge or Portumna. As a result numerous castles, forts and Martello towers dot the surrounding landscape.

Corrigans “The Corner House” Public House, located in the centre of the town, is a traditional Irish family-run pub. Flynns Bar & Lounge is a family-run pub serving food and drink and also has live music at weekends.

Birr Golf Club (18 hole golf course, Par 70) and Esker Hills Golf Club are both nearby. The River Queen, a fully licensed fifty-four seat cruiser which sails the river Shannon on a one and a half hour cruise, sails daily from Shannonbridge.

"A truly wonderful house, 'our holiday mansion' is what our children said!"

Riverside Paradise was just the perfect holiday home for us. Four adults and 5 children aged between 12-5 travelled here and stayed for four nights. The bedrooms were delightful most with an ensuite bathroom. The basement living room with pool table and large comfy sofas was where we gathered most evenings to relax and chill out after a days sightseeing. We had movies, the pool table and the open fire. There is even a bar area and table and chairs which became our games table for the boys. The kitchen is fully stocked with every kind of a pot and pan, endless crockery, tea pots, coffee makers and glasses galore. The outside balcony off the kitchen was another favourite hang out for adults to watch the children playing in the garden or hear them chatting over a game of pool!! Of course I must give a mention to the lovely gardens, childrens play area and the jetty onto the river at the bottom of the garden, a great spot to dip in your toes after a days adventure! The location is fantastic to explore the surrounding area too including Banagher, Clonmacnoise, Birr Castle, Shannon Harbour and Lough Boora Parklands and Sculpture Park.

Thank you Julie for your excellent 5 Star review.I love the children's expression of "Our Holiday Mansion".

"Top end comfort in a home from home environment !"

Clean, modern and comfortable house which, from a 'feel' perspective is thankfully a million miles away from being a clinical 'holiday home'. Lots of space, plenty of bedding/towels, stylish/minimalist decor and an extremely well kitted out kitchen all make for a stress-free get-away ; the garden and the proximity to the River Shannon only add to the charm. Peter the owner is a delight to deal with - responsive, caring and professional. You really do feel that he takes absolute responsibility for making your stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. The house itself is a 4 minute car ride from Banagher town centre which has a well-stocked Supervalu. Flynns serves very acceptable Gastropub food. Further afield, The Thatch just outside Birr was a disappointment but Beans & Leaves in Athlone was great for lunch and The Locke (again Athlone) was world-class in every respect and should be a priority to visit (for Dinner) - see separate Tripadvisor reviews. All in all, a great Irish Easter break (the 19th such 'event' in succession) was enjoyed by my extended family and we are able to recommend this property without hesitation.

It was a pleasure to have you all at Riverside Paradise. To hear that you have holidayed in Ireland so many times and this was your first visit to the Midlands of Ireland.I am grateful to you, for taking the time to review the restaurants that you dined in, during your stay at Riverside Paradise.Thank you again, hopefully we will see you again at Riverside Paradise

"Great Christmas holliday in the perfect house"

What a perfect house for a family reunion! Peter had the house beautifully decorated for Christmas before we had arrived which made it very homey and welcoming.
This house has everything we needed for a family get-together. The kitchen was fantastic and very well equipped. Lots of living space - two sitting rooms with lovely open fires that kept us nice and cozy on those windy winter nights. Everything was as advertised and depicted in the photos. Bedrooms were bigger than we expected from the photos with plenty of closet space. The property was very nice. So much room for kids to play. The views were fantastic - nice to wake up to the river Shannon out the back window.
Everyone had a great time.

Banagher is very close and we spent some time in this lovely town. The house is also centrally located for day trips. We went to Galway and Tullamore and explored other places.

The owners were very accommodating and made sure our stay was perfect.

We'll definitely be back. Next time in the summer to enjoy the Shannon more.

Thanks for a great stay!

"Home away from home"

Good for babies and kids
Allows for privacy even if you have big groups
Private chef if desired
Huge yard with swing play set for kids
Beautiful view
Close enough to town/restaurants/supermarket

heavy sediment in drinking water
I can't stay here all the time ;-)

Traveling with a 10 month old is challenging when it comes to baby proofing each house we stay at but at Riverside, it was easy. The downstairs area was simple to move easy to grab items, and we used two of the red lounge chairs to block off the bar area and Or baby was free to play and explore. We even enjoyed a fire without him being able to reach it.
X 2 Child gates
X 2 travel cots
X 2 high chairs
We also hired the personal chef, who came over last minute, cooked a beautiful mean and to die for dessert and he was the perfect amount of being there but not there during dinner. A skill very difficult to master. He was so nice and such a great chef. It was the highlight of our stay.

We did a day trip out to The Burren and the Cliffs of Moher. But instead of sightseeing, we preferred to stay in and enjoy the home.

"Relaxing and Fun!"

Riverside Paradise was so relaxing and fun! It was relaxing because you could sit on the deck and watch the river flow by or watch the sheep and cows graze in the pature next door. The bedrooms were beautiful and the kitchen and lounges were so comfortable. It was fun because it was the perfect location to branch out all over Ireland. We drove everywhere. And without Riverside as our homebase, we would not have been able to do so.

"A perfect house for a get together with friends or family"

We really enjoyed our stay in Riverside House. It's a fabulous house, very well equipped and it was perfect for a large group. The garden is great - lots of room for the kids to run about and swings etc The house is very spacious and had a playroom, and a pool table. There's plenty of options for things to do in the area. Birr Castle is fabulous and we went to Turroe Farm, which has the biggest indoor bouncy castle you've ever seen. Just throw the kids in their and sit back and have a coffee! Would most definitely recommend Riverside House. Will be returning in the future

"The house was very nice with an awesome view of the Shannon River."

We had a great time here. Good kitchen for cooking for large amounts of people. Plenty of bedrooms. I would have loved to see it in summer also. If you want your utilities to be low, do not do laundry as it takes forever and is very costly! All in all a wonderful stay!
