About the home

Villa Nirvana is a beautiful villa set in the hills of the private Santi Thani Estate. The villa has been cleverly designed to incorporate a wealth of advantages including light, airy rooms, cool dispersal of breezes throughout the house, stunning views over the Gulf of Siam, plenty of different areas for people to sit and relax and a general feeling of ease.

It is a very welcoming villa and is extremely popular with people who have visited in the past, as can be witnessed from the many enthusiastic 'write ups' in the guest books. There are lovely unspoilt beaches minutes away from the villa by car.

On these beaches there are several restaurants serving both delicious Thai and International food. There are also food and clothes shops, open markets and supermarkets within 10 minutes of the villa. Whether you are looking for a quiet 'chill out' holiday, romance or sporting fun, you will find that the villa supports your mood and is always a welcome home to walk into.

On the ground floor of the villa there is a very spacious hall with a minstrels gallery ensuring circulation of cool breezes. Off this hallway are the living areas of the house, the sitting room with sofas and chairs, the TV room with soft sofas, the kitchen which is well equipped and designed for easy food preparation with a serving bar. The dining room with table and chairs and a sideboard as well as a cupboard for the Hi fi equipment and books, guides etc.

The Main Bedroom has a King size bed and two bedside tables with drawers and lamps. There are two large built in cupboards at the other end of the room leading to the bathroom en suite, and a dressing table. Sliding doors lead out on to a balcony with spectacular views and two chairs and a table. The bathroom has a large bath, walk in shower, basin and wc.

In the second Double room there is a large double bed which can be split into two. In the second Double room there is a large double bed which can be split into two. There are two bedside tables with lamps and a fitted cupboard and dressing table. Sliding doors lead out on to the balcony with wonderful sea views and two chairs and a table.

The third Bedroom has a double bed, built in cupboard and desk/dressing table. There is a large bathroom between these two bedrooms with a walk in shower, basin and WC. All bedrooms have an over head fan as well as air conditioning. Downstairs there is a further bathroom with a walk-in shower, basin and wc.

Included in the villa there is a carport and utility room.


The house is built around the west facing private swimming pool with two terraces either side of the west facing pool.

One of these has a lovely Thai sala with 2 sun loungers in it, and the other terrace has a table and 6 chairs for eating outside. As well as a large parasol to offer shade while you eat.

There are further sun loungers and these areas as well as the pool and garden are lit at night.

The garden is stocked with tropical plants and is a haven for birds.

Maid service twice weekly. Should you require maid service more often this can be easily arranged.

Your pool will be checked and cleaned regularly throughout your stay and the garden will be watered and tended.

Car Hire can be arranged and the car can be delivered to the villa on your arrival.

There is a wealth of information in the villa of things to do and see, as well as restaurant guides and maps. Don't forget to look in the guest books for first hand tips and recommendations from previous visitors. There is also a selection of board games, books, dvds and cds for you to enjoy during your stay.

Our house manager Emma lives close to the villa and is there to make sure that you enjoy your holiday. she is available to offer advice on trips, outings and anything you want to know about the island. She is also there as a port of call if you have any concerns.

The Koh Samui region

There are many excellent Restaurants on the island from the haute cuisine of hotels and sophisticated continental restaurants to the many smaller restaurants and the Thai restaurants. Just at the bottom of the hill you will find several beach restaurants serving both International and Thai food. These are excellent for breakfast, lunch or dinner or will serve you with take away food if you just want to chill out at home.

In the small town of Maenam there are Italian Restaurants as well as Thai Restaurants on the Beach. In the villa you will find Restaurant guides, but if you don't want to go far you can go to the fisherman's village of Bophut 12 minutes away where you will find a wonderful selection of restaurants and bars, some with live music and most stay open until the early hours.

Golf: The championship course of the Santiburi golf club is a challenging 72 par course. It is about 10 minutes away from the villa. You can play 'twilight' there after 3.00pm for a reduced rate.It is worth getting there early enough for a beer and a club sandwich in the impressive clubhouse and then hitting practice balls before your tee off time. Also it is certainly worth doing a bit of putting on the practice green. The greens are like quicksilver and hard to read! You can hire clubs.

Tennis: The Santiburi Hotel has floodlit Tennis Courts and you can book these. We like to play early in the morning, but have played in the evenings and then used their smart changing rooms for showers and gone on out for the evening. You can hire rackets and balls.

Windsurfing: The Zazen Hotel just past Maenam has windsurfers for hire, as do several of the Hotels locally and in the Town of Chaweng.

Spas, Massage and Yoga: There are many excellent Spas on the island. You will find information about these in the Villa but some of the most luxurious of these are at the larger Hotels. Several of the smaller boutique spas are also worth a visit. There are several Thai massage places, in Maenam (less than ten minutes away from the villa) and you will find information about these at the villa. In many of these you can also get manicures, pedicures and beauty treatments Five minutes away from the villa is the Health Oasis Resort at which you can attend yoga classes at 8.30 am-10.00. These are held in a spacious open sided building on the beach. It is a perfect setting, and if you have never done yoga before it doesn't matter. Equally if you are experienced you will be able to fit in. Certainly worth a try!

The Ban Tai / Santi Thani area

The town of Nathon is ten minutes drive from the house where you can go to local markets and find clothes shops, arts and crafts stores as well as chemists and a Tesco store. Ten minutes in the opposite direction there is the small town of Maenam where there are many restaurants and small shops as well as the Maenam beach on which there are plenty of bars and restaurants. There are also fresh food markets here as well as small supermarkets where you can buy most essentials.

The nearest night spot to the villa is the fisherman’s village of Bophut (15 minutes drive) which is full of bars, restaurants and shops. Bohput stays open until the early hours. The Santiburi Golf Course is under 10 minutes away as is the Santiburi Hotel where you can play tennis and shower before having a cocktail on the beach. In the villa you will find information about all the things you can do and see as well as restaurants and previous guest’s tips for a good holiday in the guest book

Instead of just playing golf, mat the wonderful Santiburi Golf Course, we have found an amazing instructor who can put you right!

We decided the time had come to stop walking around the course cursing!

He is brilliant and is happy to give lessons to beginners as well as experienced golfers. you will find his details at the villa and can contact him direct.

There are many tours available on Koh Samui and to neighbouring islands.

We normally travel with EVA airways from Heathrow to Bangkok, but there are several main airlines that fly to Bangkok. When you get to Bangkok you can either travel by train and boat to Koh Samui or by plane with Bangkok airways.

Car hire can be arranged for you and the car can be delivered to the villa.

'Nirvana' it is, absolutely!

We have enjoyed Koh Samui and knowing at the end of each day and start of the next we can wake up or sit overlooking, what must be, one of the most spectacular views anywhere!! - sheer delight.

We stayed at Villa Nirvana for a week in February 2008. I really would just echo all the other glowing comments left by other guests! The villa is absolutely beautiful, everything you could possibly need has been thought of and is there ! Richard and Julia - you have done yourselves proud! There is heaps of information for guests on the island and loads of recommendations of restaurants, and tours and things. We listened to the advice, and we can consequently add our praise to Sunshine Gourmet (Poo is so sweet!), the Ocean Lounge, the little Italian place on the main road through Maenam (I can't remember its name but there are a couple of business cards for it in the info folder!), and if you want a posh night out Villa Bianca in Fishermans Village is beautiful and they have a very extensive cocktail menu!
