The Koh Samui region

Koh Samui, a palm fringed, laid back tropical island, surrounded by fantastic beaches, in the Gulf of Thailand, where it is always summer.

Samui is fun city for those that want it and the chill out capital of the world for those that don't!

Kite boarding, scuba diving, kayaking, jet skis, snorkelling, sailing, power boating, fishing, jungle cable rides, water roller ball, bungy jumping, 3 golf courses, crazy golf, football golf, bars, night clubs, pubs, restaurants by the thousand, live bands, an ice bar, Tiger zoo, elephant rides, house parties, paint balling, atv's, go carting, rock climbing, mountain biking, live ammo shooting, shop 'til you drop.....spas, massage, reiki, crystal healing, endless beaches, meditation.........

Ban Bang Makham

Well located for a number of 5 star hotels, all with great restaurants, bars and spas: the Four Seasons Resort, The Passage, The Royal Meridien Ban Taling Ngam Resort, Nikki Beach, Mai Samui Beach Resort; a Kite Boarding Asia Centre, plus a wealth of romantic Thai Beachside Restaurants in the immediate vicinity.

Nathon is 2 kilometres away, the Island's Capital, which successfully retails a very local feel, so sadly lost in Chaweng, with a wealth of tourist delights to shop for- where haggling is the accepted practice, meat, fish and fruit markets, supermarkets, convenience stores, cafe's, banks, a lively evening cooked food market and a Saturday evening Walking Street market most weeks. The weekly market is great, selling local home produce, local wine, many Thai food treats- even deep fried insects!

The immediate area provides views of hillsides full of coconut palms, oceanscapes with the National Park Islands in the distance and a panoramic view of Nathon Ferry Port, all visible from the villa that is set within a secluded and rural environment.

What originally attracted us to this particular area of Samui was the simply astounding views that provide an ever changing canvas that has an immediate calming effect on the soul. Set at a height of 80 metres yet only a few hundred metres from the shoreline where there are some lovely Thai beach restaurants, literally at the waters edge.

Hi Laura,

Thank you for your review.

It was a shame about the ac parts not being available on the island. We had to get them from Bangkok and with the holiday it was problematic. I spent many hours trying to track down something quicker. As I mailed during your holiday, you have my deepest apologies and the manager did suggest using the Buddha lounge after discussion with me. I am happy to offer a discount on another stay to help make up for that unavoidable difficulty.

It is not common for Thai domestic staff to speak English to any great degree. Most people enjoy the challenge to get the message across as part of the holiday experience and most of the work they are there to do is of a set routine that does not require much interaction. The Manager, Aoi, is always available at the end of the phone and visits frequently - and she speaks excellent English.

As for the distance, Ban Bang Makham is the quality side of the island, and the unspoiled magic of the west coast beckons. The main family oriented tourist areas such as Fisherman's village and Maenam on the north coast are maybe 15 minutes away. You can drive round the island in an hour on the ring road so its all relative to what you call far.
Chaweng depends on what time you go. It can take between 20 and 35 minutes altering with the time of day and the traffic.

If the question arises regarding Chaweng in advance of any bookings I usually recommend that if you wish to be in Chaweng every night with its more rowdy atmosphere, then take a hotel nearby to that town.

Wherever you are on the island there will always be many attractions on the other side! We do find that our luxury mini bus and driver hire is very popular with guests, removing the worry about parking and driving when out in the entertainment areas.

I am gladdened that you found the villa and location to your liking and the staff quiet and efficient.

We look forward to having you back!

Thank you for your excellent review. We have spent both time and effort getting this together to try and provide the holiday experience that I would like to have myself on the island. It is always good to hear from guests that believe it works.

My own earlier experiences of villa holidays were ok but were somewhat do it yourself affairs, including collecting a key from some local shop! The intent at SSP is to compliment the stunning location as being the prime ingredient, then try to take away any stresses by having discrete always on hand assistance- the concierge service helps to ensure you enjoy the better places, the recommended tours to keep you away from the bad options that are out there- I guess that's better described as a wealth of local expreience - all at a reasonable price. Thank you and welcome back!
