The Donegal region
Donegal Bay is alive with local festivals, events, traditional music and nightlife. The pubs are lively and the local restaurants serve only the best cuisine using local produce. The seafood is a speciality.
Donegal Bay has a rich history and heritage that can be discovered by visiting the many historical sites of castles, abbeys and interpretative centres.
Ballyshannon / Lissahully area
Ballyshannon is one of Ireland’s oldest towns, created a Borough by Royal Charter in 1613. From its idyllic setting the town looks out over the Erne Estuary and has panoramic views of mountains, lakes and forests. It provides the ideal 'hub' destination for exploring Donegal Bay, Donegal County and the neighbouring counties of Sligo, Fermanagh and Leitrim. Ballytour is a historical walking tour of Ballyshannon that brings its history to life. Shop for local crafts in the many speciality shops and purchase a piece of Donegal Parian China at the Donegal China Visitor Centre. Activities available in the Ballyshannon area include walking, cycling, watersports and golf at nearby courses in Bundoran and Murvagh. Anglers have a range of fishing opportunities in and around Ballyshannon; game, coarse and sea angling can all be enjoyed on the rivers lakes and out on Donegal Bay.
Hazelfort is situated 3 miles (5km) outside of Ballyshannon on the Belleek Road. The local area is called Lissahully and is approx 1/2 mile from the main road. The house itself is on the grounds of our farm while only being 5 mins drive to either Ballyshannon or Belleek and the local beaches, Rossnowlagh & Murvagh are 10 mins away.
