Whatever the weather there is an air of tranquility within the West Wing which will enhance your holiday experience.

The West Wing is a new luxury self-catering holiday home, adjoining a modern Stone cottage built in traditional style. It is one and a half miles from the market town of Ballynahinch in the heart of County Down, midway between the city of Belfast and the magnificent Mountains of Mourne.

At Stone Cottage we recognize that good accommodation is an essential element in the enjoyment of your holiday. We have therefore tried to create a luxurious, yet comfortable ambience where you can relax and unwind. Whatever the weather there is an air of tranquility within the West Wing which will enhance your holiday experience. We have an extensive knowledge of the surrounding area and if you let us know of your particular interests at the time of booking and are willing to help you plan your holiday outings.

The spacious tiled entrance hall has double patio doors to the front, vaulted ceiling and a gallery with views over the lake. There is a table and four chairs and a chaise longue.

There is a large living room with solid oak flooring and underfloor heating. Double patio doors to the front are furnished with electrically controlled curtains. There are two comfortable leather suites, a desk and chairs. There is a 40” Sony LCD wall mounted TV with internet access and a video camera for use with Skype, a Bose Digital Surround Sound System with DVD player, a Ninetendo Wii, Media Centre and internet telephone. Wi-fi is available throughout the house. A selection of Board Games, Jigsaw puzzles and books is provided.

The spacious fully fitted and tiled kitchen has a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, oven and hob, also a microwave cooker, toaster and kettle as well as the full range of cutlery and utensils. There is a dining table and four chairs together with a high chair for one child which is available on request. A fire-extinguisher is provided.

There is a downstairs fully tiled toilet and washroom.Upstairs there is a laundry room with washing machine, drying facilities and an electric iron and ironing board. A tumble dryer is available in the outside store together with an outside clothes line.

The main bedroom has a superking size bed, 26” LCD Television, a separate dressing room and a fully tiled en suite with bath and power shower. A cot, baby bath and changing mat is available. The second bedroom has twin single beds, an LCD TV and an en suite, again fully tiled with shower. All beds are fitted with electric blankets. Bed linen and towels are provided.

There are gardens to the front, side and rear of the cottage and guests are welcome to wander here and on the laneways surrounding the property.

To the rear of the property there is a large paved area with seating and barbeque. Beyond that there is a lawn and a croquet set is available for use here. This lawn leads to a paddock where ball games may be played and there is a large natural lake with a Log Cabin at the lakeside with seating inside and on the front deck. The Cabin has electricity and there is a tap to the side. The lake is home to numerous wildlife including swans, mallards, coots and many birds and fish.

Wander in the footsteps of St Patrick, explore the grandeur of the Mournes, breathe the salt air of Strangford, or feel the sand between your toes on the beaches of Newcastle. It doesn't get any better than this!


Ballynahinch is a bustling market town in County Down, mid way between Belfast and the Mountains of Mourne and within easy reach of all the amenities that Co Down has to offer. The town offers the usual ranges of shops and has a Thursday market. For the golfer there are several Golf Courses in the area. The historic town of Hillsborough with its Castle, Park and Lake are a few minutes drive away. There are National Trust Gardens at Saintfield, 5 miles.

Downpatrick, 10 miles is the burial place of Ireland's Patron Saint and his grave stone can be see in the grounds of Down Cathedral. St Patrick's Trail is a fascinating tour of historic Co Down. Lisburn,10 miles, has cinemas, leisure centres a shopping mall and the largest out of town shopping centre in Ireland.
