The County Kerry region
The Ring of Kerry (or Iveragh Peninsula to give it its correct name) is part of the mystical & unspoilt region of Ireland that has attracted visitors for hundreds of years. Its spectacular beauty is beyond question and it is a natural centre for outdoor pursuits including golf, watersports, cycling, walking, riding and the very best fishing in freshwater rivers for salmon & trout and at sea for bass, ray, pollack, conger eel, cod, flounder, wrasse, mullet, mackerel and tuna.
The Ring of Kerry has some of the finest beaches in Europe that provide all the facilities for a traditional seaside holiday. Above all the Ring of Kerry provides an amazing insight into the ancient heritage of Ireland - see the Iron Age Forts & Ogham Stones, Old Monasteries and a landscape carved out of rock by the last Ice Age 10,000 years ago. Visitors to Ireland should not miss a trip to the beautiful Ring of Kerry
This property is located near the picturesque village of Ballinskelligs Ballinskelligs is just off the Ring of Kerry on N70 between the towns of Cahersiveen and Waterville. The distance from Cahersiveen is 18.2 Kilometers or 11.3 miles and from Waterville is 15.8 Kilometers or 9.8 Miles.
Ballinskelligs (Baile na Sceilge) is a Gaeltacht area, ( Irish speaking ) on an attractive bay facing the larger resort of Waterville across the water. The area is renowned for its miles of golden beach and turquoise water. The area has its own Irish College, where children come in summer to learn the Irish language. The area has a unique history and culture and was the land base for the monks that lived on Skellig Michael.
For sports lovers, Ballinskelligs is an ideal location, offering world class water sports from windsurfing to sea angling. It is also an important departure point for boat trips to the Skelligs and for diving trips. Experience the thrill of galloping along the sandy beach or go trekking in the mountains nearby. There are also some beautiful walks and cycling trails in the area........ there is plenty to keep you occupied.
Some of the townlands and villages surrounding Ballinskelligs are breathtaking and should not be missed including Valentia Island (connected by a bridge and car ferry to the mainland), Waterville, Finians Bay, Portmagee and Caherdaniel.
Valentia is an island of unique scenic beauty, tropical vegetation, breathtaking cliffs and magnificent seascapes. The island is an excellent centre for sea angling and diving in unpolluted waters. Linked by a bridge at Portmagee and car ferry from Renard Point (near Cahersiveen) to Knightstown, Valentia Island is a substantial island of character and atmosphere.
The famous town of Dingle and its surrounding area, Slea Head can be accessed by road (about a two hour drive) or by Ferry. A ferry departs from (and returns to) Valentia Island every day in the summer season and takes approximately one hour to reach Dingle
