The chalet sits on the edge of Lough Carra, a four thousand acre lake in south Mayo.
The lake is renowned for it's excellent quality brown trout.
The chalet was originally the boathouse to Moorehall House. The old house is now a ruin and the 200 acre estate is mainly coniferous forest. There are lots of walking paths through the forest.
The North West Ireland region
Moorehall is in south Mayo, the Partry mountains are to the south west, Westport and Croagh Patrick are a half an hour to the west, the busy town of Castlebar a half an hour to the north. Claremorris is to the east.
Tourmakedy, arguably the most beautiful place on earth, is a short drive to the south through magnificent Irish countryside.
The surrounding area is mostly farmland.
Mayo is quickly becoming a gourmand's treasure trove. Many local butchers, organic vegetable growers, cheesemakers, and restaurants are winning national awards. If you enjoy food you will find everything from the freshest fish to great wild food within a half hour's drive.
