The Central Ireland region
There is so much to see and do in the area to suit all tastes. Lough Key Forest Park has a fantastic ropes course, Zipit, and also an indoor problem solving activity suitable for all the family called Boda Borg, and a great outdoor children's play area, rowing boats to rent and a coffee shop. Arigna Mines provides guided tours of the old coal mines by guides who used to work in the mines, it also has a great information area, and coffee shop. Strokestown House and Gardens gives a very different view of an old house it is privately owned and the house is pretty much as it was when the last people left it as they took very little with them. Marble Arch Caves are Unesco awarded caves and they are beautiful, and when the weather is good you enter them by boat. Florencecourt House is close to the Marble Arch Caves and is a National Trust House. Lough Rynn House has beautiful gardens and you can have lunch or afternoon tea there. All of these attractions have walks of varying lengths.
This is just a sample of what is available within easy driving distance.
Most of our guests are overwhelmed by the beauty of Leitrim and the great place we live in. The Old Rectory was built to accommodate the rector for the Church of Ireland which is beside our home. The Abbey's are beside the church and as we are on protected ground there are few houses near us. Fenagh is a lovely village with a local shop, two pubs and a visitor centre. Ballinamore is 3 miles and Mohill is 7 miles.
